Re: Whats in your mic box and what your favorite? Kick - Sennheiser MD421. I also have an AKG D112 but I only use it if I have to mic up 2 kicks / kits or need the 421 elsewhere. Snare - Shure beta56 or Sennheiser e604. (I have never gotten in the habit of double micing kick or snare.) Toms - Sennheiser e604s. (Audix f10s and F12s if I need to mic 2 kits.) Hats - Altec a42. I dont know much about this mic (even where I got it) but its a condenser and sounds great on hats. OH - Audix f15s. Guitars - Sennheiser e609s or Shure SM57s. Horns - usually SM57s but I have been known to put the D112 on kick so I can use the MD421 on trombone or other bass instruments. Bass & Keys - EWI LDB 101s and LDB202s. I also have an EWI FDB202 if the source needs a passive DI. Vox, Lead - Sennheiser e945 or Shure Beta58, backups - Shure SM58s. Recently I have had the opprotunity to work with a couple singers who brought their own SM87s and was real happy with those as well. Planned mic stash upgrades include better condensers for cymbals or the occaisional accoustic instrument plus I need some wireless vocal mics.
