Thanks.. that would have been handy back when I was living in manchester or tolland,, but I left CT in the mid 80's.
I am not in love with DIY if I can avoid it. I just let my fingers do a little more walking and found a website selling replacement parts (HESCO) so maybe I can get some new plastic parts. The motor and everything else seems in OK shape.
I could diagram how the thread veer occurred, but I will assume your query was rhetorical.
