Wireless PA

Re: Wireless PA

Hmm... why *isn't* there an easy solution that lets people listen on their own phones? Seems like there would be some demand with hearing assist situations.

If the phone has a tuner app, you could do that. You really don't want to use phones. Old people with hearing problems are not going to be savvy enough to manage the multiple volume settings. This would create more of a disruption than help.

Or simultaneous interpretation... my church actually looked into broadcasting Spanish interpretation of our services over wi-fi to members' smartphones, but in the end we couldn't get it to work reliably enough so we went with a Williams RF setup instead.

Well, the data compression algorithms can always be adjusted for music. The latency is still a problem over smartphones is terrifying, however. It's going to be a problem for a while for certain.

Typically, making the compression sound better for music means requiring more transmission bandwidth. (This is readily apparent in the various VoIP schemes)
