I have the need to purchase/build a workbox. This is for the facility I am currently AV for. Its a personal expense otherwise I'd just buy one pre-made and have them ship it here. Since it will be my own box I was wondering what you guys would do in my shoes.

The box needs to be able to be truck packed (easily) I have a possibility of going on a tour this year. It also needs to hold gel sheets frame cut and rolls of gels. The frame cuts I'd like to be in a filing cabinet style. Roll could just be tucked away in a plastic tube of some sort. It needs to hold gobo's and frames as well as gobo holders. I'd also like to be able to have my laptop and printer setup inside for working on paperwork during down times. So attached Power strip would be nice and an Edison inlet on the outside of the case so I don't have a cord sticking out of the door.

Budget at this point is extremely flexible since It will be coming from my own pocket and while not infinite definitely easier to scrounge than if it were company money.

Re: Work Box

Is there a local case company you can work with? This is sounding like it'll probably end up a custom design.

Do you have a preference for the drawer-style workbox (smaller, easier to handle, likely to end up pretty full once you take into account the printer, file drawer, and a couple other drawers), or the wardrobe style (a bit unwieldy on ramps)?

Re: Work Box

Unfortunately, no local company, Wardrobe style would be best. Not worried about ramps so much as I'll have crew at each stop to assist in the loading and unloading. I've asked a couple online manufacturers for some quotes. Awaiting a reply. I was wondering, I heard a couple guys would buy used wardrobe cases and modify the crap out of them but I've seen those cases and for me to modify would take about 2 1/2 months or so to change over to what I could use not to mention I don't have free access to the tools to do so.
