I stopped by Solotech on Saturday for a look at the iLive T112. Nice.
Right beside it was a Yami 4K. Cosmetically, it was absolutely beautiful.
4K-40C, power supply and road case........................ $2,500, and they'd deliver it to my shop on Monday.
(No thanks, my back can't take that shit anymore.)
Wasn't that a $60,000 board once upon a time ??
Chris.

yes. yes it was. ish.

truth is all the big analog desks have taken a big resale hit with the advent of Big Digital, but the Yamahas have taken it on the chin worse than most due to the sheer numbers of them out there. the fact that they seem to never break means there are tons of them left in very good working order, and it seems that no one ever really 'wanted' them, they just 'accepted' them. i've seen PM5Ks in mint condition going for 5 grand US which is almost a crime.

in contrast, the XL4 continues to hold a reasonable value due to it's perceived sound quality. there are still quite a few tours that carry them, and i might do the same if i had the option. and i've seen some Paragon IIs going for fairly good money as well.

but yeah, big analog is over. which makes me sad. but i'm old and big and analog and pretty much over too. so there it is...

Re: Wow, things have sure changed....

There were many negatives to the 5' boards - truck space, load in, load out, space in the venue ... but it sure was nice when the promoter started complaining about our pricing you could point to the house and monitor console. They also kept the bus driver/cousin/girlfriend from attempting to mix. Now we carry in these little road cases and the majesty of the mix position has gone away.

five feet? what's that, a wimpy lampie board? :) we're talking good ol' fashioned 7.5 footers... case lids i could take long, wonderful naps in [i'm 6'4"]. cases that took more than a full sheet of plywood to make a side. casters originally designed for transporting the space shuttle. "minimum 6 big stage hands or we're not gonna have a gig tonight" kinda desks. we're talking big beastly heavenly pieces of gear here... :)

majestic FOH indeed!

Brian, you are right. The memory is the 2nd thing to go, especially if you are trying to forget. Our first large large format board was a 40 channel Soundcraft Series 2. A homeless family of four could have lived in that road case. Oh the memories. The power supplies were larger than most digital boards.

Yes, I believe I first met Bill at an ABATE spring opener at Roslyn, WA... back innabout 1988(?), when he was running that board and the JBL (Cabaret?) system for that event.

I'm interested in purchasing Solotech's 4K, as I'm currently running PM4K's, and intend to do so for awhile longer.

It's Series TWO that's from the late 90s/early 2000s, it's the predecessor to the GB8.

The series 2 was made by little children outdoors on the banks of the Thames using steam power while watching out for Jack the Ripper. Well, almost... :D

yeah, i always get those model numbers mixed.

of course, considering i took all of these screeenshots from the original manual that's on soundcraft's website maybe i'm not the only one... :)

in fact, the first two are the first two pages of the manual...

The first 2, are? Or the first two? Or maybe both, Soundcraft seems to agree
