A buddy of mine runs two Yamaha CW218V's and two Crown XLS 2500's and loves them. The CW218V has good reviews on it but is it crap or not? I'm looking at buying a pair of them and a pair of XLS 2500's. I play for crowds of around 300 in small to medium sized venues and play songs with mostly heavy bass such as EDM or Trap. Can these subs handle this type of bass or would it be worth it to buy something else?

Since you have a friend who has them-you should already know whether or not they will do the job you want to do.

"Doing the job" can mean VERY different things to different people-depending on their perspective and expectations.

For some people any product may be just fine and do a "good enough" job. For others, a particular product is not even worth putting on the DJ monitor.

Just like with cars-what some people consider to be nice or great performing is very different than what other people expect.

Ivan puts it the best...

But I'm like Ehh... they are cheap, but they make noise. I personally would rather that the budget of a Dual 18" sub and put into a much better Single 18" sub. I'm also a fan of self powered speakers; so I would look at them instead.

With a $2500 budget for 2 subs; for live music, I would look at the JBL PRX718XLF; but if more into DJ'ing and EDM stiff, then the Yorkville LS801P.

I'm wanting to go passive for storage reasons but will storing powered stuff in a garage be okay? Or will that damage the electronics because of the temperature?

The temperature will be okay. If it's fit for you to park your car, work in, store other stuff... your professional electronics should be fine.

What about in the long term. I live in Oregon where the temperature range changes greatly within the same month. Will there be a noticeable difference in performance or will any of the electronics be damaged? Would I just be safer to go passive and store my amps in a temperature controlled environment?

Temperature swings shouldn't be an issue, as large temperature swings are very common during shipping (neither shipping containers sitting the sun nor the belly of a cargo plane are climate controlled), and pretty much all reputable manufacturers design for them. Humidity and condensation are bigger concerns, but those affect the speakers as much as the electronics.

I've used hear that went from 80 to -40 and back at least once a day, a 120 degree swing. Just let the condensation evaporate before powering on. Oh, and don't let guitars, violins, etc make those swings.
