Re: Yamaha's April console update is going to be better than originally promised

Stagemix is pointless as a "here musician, take this tablet and mix your own monitors" until:
1. They allow it to be locked to a particular mix
2. They allow it to have most of the other functions disabled (e.g. only allow mix levels and pans to be adjusted for 1 selected mix)
3. They incorporate custom fader banks which are independent from the custom banks on the console

It's a kind-of remote control app right now, not really a personal mixer like the Behringer or Midas products. I would love Yamaha to come out with a true "personal mixer" version that can be safely handed to musicians.

I hope they have a way to limit the number, or which iPads are allowed to connect to the console. I may not necessarily want other people and their iPad to be able to connect all the time.

Maybe they should make an actual Ipad (and Android) based personal monitoring app, which is separate from Stage Mix.

I agree, or at least allow the StageMix app to be limited.
The fact that it doesn't even utilize the Yamaha User Key system and just allows anyone to access all functions with no console password or functional limits is a bit of a fail.

Maybe they are making the assumption that you're not passing out the wifi password to those you don't want connecting to the console? Just a thought. I'm inclined to think that this is simply to head off all those people who took "early in 2015" too optimistically. Still seven months between the initial announcement and ( promised) delivery is well into vaporware territory.

Is that exactly how it is going to work? I haven't seen any blurbs about security or how close it'll be to SM 4.

Just assuming. There'd be no reason for them to NOT mention it if they were going to make a major change to the security in that software as it would mark a major improvement.
