You weren't imagining things...pop music IS getting more boring!

Re: You weren't imagining things...pop music IS getting more boring!

It's really a shame that subtle stylistic and regional musical idioms are being lost in the global wash. I love the variations on a common melodic theme as you follow the same tune from hardanger fiddle country through springleik country over to pols i Rørostraktene........and on into Sweden where every county and town makes it their own. I'll admit that I'm stuck in the 18th and 19th centuries for my favorite "folk" music.

If you go west, to Scotland and Irland, you have much of the same there, and you are constantly getting new blends of these styles that makes it into the charts one way or the other. I don't think there is any reason to worry, regional, world, indie and mainstream is still thriving. The "noise" has allways been there, the good stuff survives for decades and centuries.
What is your "real" name by the way? Rise?

Rhys.

But Olav Rise fra Oppdal thought we were related when I met him in Minneapolis in the late '70's. He had had a drink or two before we met.......

I agree with Per. Plenty of good stuff out there. Just takes a little digging. More concerning than the soundtrack is the lyrics that are played regularly over the air. I dont really have an issue with promiscuous lyrics per say but the way its pushed in the main stream is a bit ridiculous. I was providing for a neighborhood bbq celebration etc and the tunes that 6-10 year olds were requesting from the dj were crazy inappropriate. I remember listening to Too $hort :D~:-D~ and the like when I was a youth but I had to seek it out.
