I can't find a Zoom forum so I'm asking anyone here. I bought the Zoom H4n but my computer doesn't read it when plugged to the USB port. Any ideas? Thanks for your time..

| A: | When you connect the H4n to the computer via USB cable, the "USB MODE SELECT" screen appears. In this condition, the unit and the computer are not yet in the online condition. You must use the jog dial to move the cursor to "STORAGE" and then press the jog dial. When the indication "USB STORAGE" appears, the H4n and the computer are in the online condition. For details, see page 33 of the Operation Manual. |

I have the manual. Done all that. Still won't connect. I can't get the driver to install. Prompt comes up at the end of the session stating that there is no device to connect to. Sorry, I should have been clearer but it was early and I worked late.

Have you opened up Device Manager to check...sometimes there are multiple things to update. I had a similar problem with some printers. The driver wouldn't install directly, so I looked for the "?" in Device Manager and worked on it from there.
Let us know how it turns out.

I finally got the computer to read it but still can't get it to communicate with the recording software that comes with it. I may have issues in my computer.

Plug Zoom in via USB.
Go to My Computer, right click>properties>device manager>sound devices/controllers> find zoom unit>right click>uninstall. Do the same if there is a device with a yellow "?" over/near it.
Unplug Zoom from USB.
Install the Zoom ASIO audio driver. http://www.zoom.co.jp/downloads/h4n/software/#software73
Plug Zoom in via USB - click yes as necessary to install driver.
Get Reaper http://www.reaper.fm/ to mix/edit the audio.
In Reaper options>preferences>audio>device>ASIO>pick Zoom device from the drop down menu. You should be good to go.
