AFMG Announces SoundFlow

Berlin, Germany, August 2011 – For more than twenty years, Berlin’s Ahnert Feistel Media Group (AFMG) has been the leading scientific authority for sound propagation simulation in building acoustics and room simulation. Now AFMG is expanding the renowned EASE Suite with AFMG SoundFlow. With SoundFlow, models of multi-layered wall constructions can be quickly and intuitively created to instantly deliver accurate and precise predictions of absorption, reflection and transmission.

With growing demand for improved sound insulation and energy efficiency, multi-layered construction utilizing modern materials has become increasingly critical in building physics and acoustical design. AFMG SoundFlow is specifically designed to meet those demands, making it possible to create fast and highly accurate predictions of the acoustic behavior of almost any multi-layered wall, ceiling or floor material. Wall construction simulation is set up via a few clicks from the extensive materials data bank. Custom materials can be easily defined and added to the list.

AFMG SoundFlow offers a number of helpful features to meet the needs of engineers and acoustics professionals. Data is displayed using industry standard values including ALPHAw, NRC, C/Ctr, Rw and STC. More importantly, SoundFlow can quickly and easily calculate the frequency dependent results of reflection, absorption and transmission. Adjustable scaling and smoothing can be applied. Multiple multi-layered wall compositions can be compared simultaneously in seconds. SoundFlow provides the option to investigate the material´s behavior for diffuse sound as well as for any specific angle of incident sound, both with an open back or rigid back termination. Professional users can choose between calculation schemes including Bies, ISO / DIN EN 12354, Mechel, Komatsu, Miki or Delany-Bazley.

With AFMG SoundFlow, extensive reports can be produced in PDF and RTF formats for subsequent export to other applications. All graphics can be saved in BMP and PNG formats. For professionals already using AFMG’s industry standard EASE acoustic simulation software, SoundFlow Standard also supports the option to directly export data of the absorption coefficients to EASE wall material files, thereby increasing even further the speed and accuracy of room acoustics simulation with EASE. Of course SoundFlow supports both Metric and US measurement systems.

AFMG SoundFlow Pro: For Power Users, Research Facilities and Manufacturers
In addition to SoundFlow Basic and Standard versions, AFMG also offers Soundflow Pro, designed for highly specialized applications including research facilities, acoustical engineers and manufacturers of construction materials. Soundflow Pro enables in-depth analysis of the complex characteristics of acoustic models, including acoustical impedance, reflection and transmission factors, as well as frequency-dependent amplitude and phase, in both real and imaginary parts. Soundflow Pro also offers the option of exporting data for use in tabular calculations and other applications.

AFMG SoundFlow Basic: For Semi-Professional Home/Project Studios and Home Theater Applications
AFMG also offers SoundFlow Basic, an affordable alternative for the design of home and project studios and home theater applications. SoundFlow Basic limits its calculations to four layers of construction material, with all calculations performed only according to Bies.

Prices and Distribution:
AFMG is presently offering a special pricing on all SoundFlow versions:

SoundFlow Basic – € 300 plus VAT
SoundFlow Standard – € 600 plus VAT
SoundFlow Pro – € 900 plus VAT

About EASE – Industry Standard for Acoustical Simulation of Rooms
Since the 1990´s, EASE has been setting the worldwide standard for acoustic simulation both inside rooms and in open areas. Rooms can be defined using a CAD module, absorption coefficients can be assigned to surfaces, and sound sources as well as listener positions can easily be added to the model. Data can then be used to generate an exact simulation of reverberation times, speech intelligibility and other acoustical parameters even before the room itself is built.

This is also very useful especially for predicting the performance of loudspeaker models in a suggested acoustical environment. EASE supports this by providing the most extensive loudspeaker database available on the market. EASE SpeakerLab assists loudspeaker manufacturers in continually providing new data in GLL format. SpeakerLab is frequently implemented by more and more manufacturers, and the GLL format provides possibilities to define loudspeakers and controllers in all their parameters. This is singular to the market; EASE continues to be unrivaled in ease of use, flexibility and precision in simulating electro- and room acoustics.

EASERA and SysTune – A Pair for all Requirements in Audio Measurement
AFMG´s EASERA is the universal software platform for all acoustical, electronic, and audio technical measurements. It fulfills the highest scientific demands. Beyond that, it has features that allow quick and comprehensive gathering of data in the field which can then be analyzed in depth when back in the office. EASERA has all established measurement signals ready in one coherent and easy-to-learn platform thus providing a multitude of options for measuring and evaluation.
Professionals worldwide value SysTune as the preferred software platform when it comes to analyzing and optimizing sound systems in operation. For this, SysTune provides multi-channel measurements in real time, giving sound engineers precise impulse and frequency responses, as well as delay times – even in the middle of the show with an audience present.
