Menlo Park, CA – October 2014… World-famous alternative comedy group Monty Python recently took to the stage for the final time with a run of shows at London’s O2 arena in July. The final show of the ten-date production was aired live on UK Gold and across the world, so choosing the right microphone was a top priority.
US manufactured Countryman microphones were the choice of Rory Madden, sound designer for the Monty Python shows at the London O2 and owner of Sonalyst, who provided the sound equipment for the shows. Rory specified the H6 Headset mic, the latest addition to Countryman’s portfolio, as part of his design.
Rory approached Graham Paddon of Amber Sound to supply the H6 mics as Sonalyst’s long standing pro audio supplier and Countryman distributor. All five of the surviving Monty Python cast were fitted up with the H6 mics along with the rest of the cast, chorus and dancers.
In addition to the H6 mics, Sonalyst wanted to have back up radio mic transmitters on each of the main cast members, so needed a way of having two microphone capsules on one headset mic, each going to a separate transmitter. Amber Sound worked with Countryman, who was able to supply a solution by enabling a B6 Lavalier mic to be clipped to the boom of the headset mic, giving the option of a main and backup capsule on a single headset.
Rory commented, ‘I’ve used Countryman for years and have always been very impressed with the sound clarity, so when I was asked to specify something for such a high profile tour the H6 was the obvious choice. I’ve also dealt with Graham for years so was very comfortable with the combination of support from Countryman and Amber Sound.’.
