New Britain, CT (February 16, 2011) – The Rock Cats, a Double-A minor league team, recently upgraded the audio system in its home, New Britain Stadium, with Community Professional Loudspeakers’ R-Series all-weather loudspeakers.

An affiliate of the American League Minnesota Twins, the team’s stadium is a 6,000-seat venue built in 1996. The new audio system, installed by Newington, CT-based CMI Sound System, includes 20 of Community’s R.5 two-way systems mounted in pairs on lighting poles to cover the stadium’s different seating areas.

Near the Press Box area and along the baselines, R.5-94Z loudspeakers provide a 90 x 40 degree coverage pattern, while areas further out are served by R.5-99Z with 90 x 90 degree coverage. Four R.5-66Z loudspeakers handle the press box area with a 60 x 60 degree pattern. The system is powered by QSC PLX-series amplification, with processing provided by an Ashly Protea.

As CMI’s Michael Bane explains, coverage and weather were the major factors in selecting the R-Series. “The R.5s provide consistent coverage and great intelligibility,” he says. “The other important issue was durability. The original sound system just wasn’t built to withstand the unique New England winters. We’ve worked with Community’s R-Series on other projects, and they really do stand up to harsh weather. Performance, long-term durability and warranty coverage were all things that separated Community from the competition.”
