DBs Music has opened a new music technology training centre in partnership with Cornwall College, choosing GS-R24M recording mixers for four production suites and several ZED-10FX. An addition to DBs’ existing Plymouth centre, the new facility offers a variety of new training programmes in Music Performance and Music Production, with plans to add university-level courses in the future. All four GS-R24 mixers have been installed into bespoke furniture, connected to 27″ iMacs with Pro Tools and Logic. There are also a few small ZED-10FX mixers installed in their custom built live and performance rooms.

Mark Trewin, who is DBs’ Development Director, commented: “When we looked at mixing solutions for our new studios in Cornwall there was really only one choice for us. The Allen & Heath GS-R24M mixers provide our learners with high quality functionality just as you would expect in a commercial recording facility. We love the pre-amps and the overall tonal warmth that these mixers provide -analogue meets digital beautifully and seamlessly combined with control surface functionality for ProTools and Logic. We can deliver traditional studio craft alongside cutting edge automation and control techniques, all from one unit and the icing on the cake is our studios look awesome!”

Charitable organisation, Hannah’s at Seale Hayne in Newton Abbot, has selected an iLive digital system for its new Yellow Room live music centre. Hannah’s iLive system comprises an iLive-T112 Control Surface and iDR-48 MixRack with a KV2 speaker system, and manages an eclectic range of live shows as well as DJ events. All the profit made from the new venue goes straight to help fund the disabled children’s charity, Dame Hannah Rogers Trust.

We are particularly excited about the Dante networking option as we really want to be able to offer multi-channel live recording to bands and label managers. We also film our shows, so the ability to edit synch after the event is a huge benefit,” comments Hannah’s live music manager, Mark Turner.

Finally, the specialist arts institution, University College Falmouth (UCF), has installed numerous A&H mixers in its high specification performance and rehearsal studios, practice rooms, and analogue and digital recording studio complex, including a GL2800, a couple of MixWizards, and most recently several ZED compact USB mixers. An iLive system, comprising an iLive-T112 Control Surface and iDR-48 MixRack, has also been installed in the University College’s Performance Centre, one of the most sophisticated facilities of its kind in Europe dedicated to delivering innovative Performance degree programmes in Music, Theatre, Dance, Management and Production as well as holding a public, year-round contemporary performance programme.

“iLove iLive! Within hours of the iLive arriving I was using the T112 to teach on. The surface is very logical and the screen graphics are a great visual aid to teaching EQ and Dynamics. Sonically, the desk is very smooth and A&H has done a fantastic job on the DCA’s, Compressors and Gates,” comments Adam Loveday Edwards, senior technician at UCF.
