Fort Wayne, IN – November 2012… As a multi-cultural, multi-generational, mission-minded church that is deeply involved in the community, Fellowship Missionary Church takes a contemporary approach to its worship services in an effort to bring greater relevance to its congregation. Music and sound are vital elements of the worship activities and, to ensure world-class audio performance for all its endeavors, the church recently installed an impressive new sound reinforcement system drawn from the TrueLine catalog of Greensboro, NC-based WorxAudio Technologies.
Fort Wayne, IN-based CSD Group, Inc., an award winning, nationally recognized design/build firm providing audio, video, lighting, and acoustics services, was contracted to manage the church’s new sound system installation. CSD Group President Doug Hood, who oversaw the project from conception through completion, discussed the challenges.
“The church’s new Chapel is a very contemporary environment with seating for approximately 500 people,” Hood explained. “The space might well be thought of as a multi-purpose facility, as it hosts concerts, special events, guest speakers, classes, weddings—even funerals. For this installation, we wanted the system to be as streamlined as possible. That meant going with a self-powered setup so as to minimize cabling while eliminating the need to find storage for a rack of unsightly power amplifiers. Given these criteria, the WorxAudio TrueLine X5i-P installation line array and TL218SS-P subwoofers fit the specifications of the job perfectly.”
For this installation, the CSD Group crew flew two X5i-P line arrays at a height of 24 feet using WorxAudio’s TrueAim™ Grid mounting system—one cluster on each side of the stage / altar area. The two TL218SS-P subwoofers are mounted in custom bunkers on the floor. “The equipment’s built-in power amplifiers simplified the signal chain and the X5i-P’s single cabinet, multiple line array form factor gave us a very clean install, which was important to the design team. We purchased the arrays unfinished and the client custom painted the enclosures to match the décor of the room.”
When queried about the system’s performance attributes, Hood offered the following, “For this job, sound quality was a huge factor and, in this regard, the WorxAudio equipment really delivers. The equipment does a terrific job reproducing music, and speech intelligibility is exceptional. This combination of line arrays and subwoofers delivers a very full, rich, and natural quality to everything that feeds through the system.”
Hood was also quick to note WorxAudio’s first-rate customer service and support. “WorxAudio has always been great to work with,” he said. “As we are a dealer for some of the larger loudspeaker companies, we see a real difference in the level of detail and the genuine, proactive customer service we get from the entire WorxAudio team. That level of service is greatly appreciated by our staff.”
As he shifted his attention to the business of the day, Hood concluded with the following thoughts, “We actually demonstrated the X5i-P in their main sanctuary, which seats approx. 1,000 and the two arrays performed great there. The Chapel project turned out so well that we are now in discussions with the client about renovating the main sanctuary, since everyone notices the outstanding sound quality in the new Chapel. When one project leads to another, that’s as good as it gets.”

About the TrueLine X5i-P installation Line Array and TL218SS-P Subwoofer
The WorxAudio X5i-P is a compact, ‘all-in-one’ line array that incorporates five modules, each with a medium format, 1-inch exit compression driver coupled to a stabilized proprietary FlatWave™ Former (wave shaping device) that delivers clear, penetrating high frequencies over a predictable and controlled coverage area. These compression drivers are paired with dual 8-inch cone transducers in each of the five modules. Hence, each X5i-P loudspeaker system provides a total of five high frequency drivers and ten bass drivers. The TL218SS-P subwoofer incorporates two 18-inch WorxAudio TL1801A transducers in a bass-reflex configuration and provides maximum output with minimal distortion for smooth extended low frequency response.
