Burbank, CA … Mojave Audio, a company founded by David Royer (known for his work with ribbon microphones), and its sister company Royer Labs, a leading manufacturer of high quality ribbon microphones, recently participated in the Folk Alliance International 2013 conference held at the Delta Chelsea Hotel in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Folk Alliance International exists to foster and promote traditional, contemporary, and multicultural folk music and dance and related performing arts. As part of this year’s activities, Mojave Audio and Royer Labs established a ‘Pop up Studio’ as a means of demonstrating the companies’ products and to give conference attendees the opportunity to experience the capabilities of these products first hand.

Gaining logistical assistance from company friends at HHB Canada, the Mojave and Royer team set up a studio in one of the hotel rooms. With support from Auralex, the pop up studio gained some acoustical treatment while Universal Audio graciously provided some signal processing equipment—specifically the LA-610 MkII Classic Tube Recording Channel, the 4-710d microphone preamplifier, and Apollo high resolution interface. Combined with a wide assortment of Mojave and Royer microphones, conference attendees found themselves in the midst of world-class recording products and acclaimed recording engineers.

Dave Misener, Brian Hogue, Shahab Mobasher, Paul Talbott and Dusty Wakeman served as the recording engineers for the various sessions that took place. Collectively, they recorded 45 sessions during the conference’s three days. Mojave Audio has now made several videos from these sessions available on the company website at http://www.mojaveaudio.com/folkalliance2013.html. Here, site visitors can get a first-hand look at what took place and hear samples of the music recorded.

Dusty Wakeman, Mojave Audio’s president, commented on the Folk Alliance International 2013 conference and the sessions that took place in the Mojave Audio – Royer Labs pop up studio. “This year’s Folk Alliance conference was a terrific opportunity for everyone who attended,” states Wakeman. “There were numerous performances that were really inspiring and the ability to interface with the dedicated artists who attended was a rare opportunity for us. The pop up studio was a tremendous success and we fully expect to participate at next February’s event in Kansas City, MO. We recorded some exceptional music and had a great time doing it. With many of these sessions available for viewing on the Mojave website, it gives our visitors a great opportunity to listen to the music captured with Mojave and Royer mics while learning about microphone placement and other tips and tricks that can help make us all a little better at our craft. I encourage anyone serious about recording to check these sessions out.”
