4/1/2014 Boston, MA – The MUSIC Group has entered into a $1.1 Billion USD agreement to add the popular online discussion site Sound Forums Network (SFN) to its portfolio of brands. The announcement was made at a special press conference attended by the principals of both companies, broadcast from the SFN corporate headquarters at 50 Dalton St.
“Discussion of MUSIC Group brands like Behringer, Midas, and Turbosound already occupies all our forum traffic”, said SFN co-founder Bennett Prescott of the move. “It made logical sense to consider an acquisition by MUSIC Group. This will allow them to leverage their brand’s synergy on the global marketplace of the Internet and increase velocity for all of their product lines. As one of the most traveled professional audio bulletin boards in the English language, we are uniquely qualified to manage conversations for them in the broadest possible context.”
Although Sound Forums Network has primarily run the live audio centric discussion forums at soundforums.net, MUSIC Group plans to use their technology for brand communication, media relations, and market research. In discussions with analysts, MUSIC Group spokespeople have stated they will be hiring a writing team to create original content for the site. Their focus will be research into the latest pro audio techniques and technologies, presented for understanding and immediate use by tomorrow’s audio professionals. New resources provided by this acquisition will allow the network to become more true to its original mission by adding new forums for recording, DJs, guitarists, and broadcast engineering.
Uli Behringer, CEO of the MUSIC Group, commented on the purchase: “We have been working with SoundForums.net for over a year now, and received an outstanding response to new product releases from their members. Recently I have seen other online brands with no physical product, like Oculus and WhatsApp, sell for enormous sums. I wanted to make sure we could be part of that kind of wanton disregard for actual market value as well.”
Sound Forums Network will continue to operate independently from its headquarters in Boston, Mass. The deal is expected to close in the second quarter of 2014. Arthur Anderson consulting will handle the transition of ownership.

Re: Article: MUSIC Group Buys Sound Forums Network
you had me for a minute … breathing again now
April 1 is a good day to buy MG stuff.
You guys suck! I’ve really enjoyed this forum, but given the new ownership, I’m no longer interested in participating here. I guess it was just a matter of time though, with the 32 billion X32 threads. I wish you all the best in your future ventures.
Hah 😉 Come on, Oculus had real IP, by the standards of silicone valley you should be worth at least 100 times as much 😉
Let’s see… my capital contributions were about 10% of fund raising for the first 18 months of the site. You can wire my share to my secret off shore account. I knew I was backing a talented pair of swindlers and malcontents!
Tim “retired for a day” Mc
4-1-14 <<<<<<< note the numeric palindrome.
Nothing short of perfection!
Congrats, Bennett. Well done.
I’m just hoping you don’t lose that $1.1B in a law suit to Danley for using the word “synergy” in your blurb.
HA! had me too. I was getting ready to start a forum!
Re: Article: MUSIC Group Buys Sound Forums Network
It took a minute to wake up 8)~8-)~
Gawd. I HATE April 1…
By the way… Arthur Anderson is no longer Arthur Anderson…
Thanks Bennett 🙂
Dang, I should have been a silent partner in this!! 🙂
Will Klark Technik be devising a translation device to allow the different forums in AESENG to be converted to multiple other languages?
Why buy the cow when you can get the milk for free? 😛
Is it ironic or poetic that the announcement page wasn’t working worth a damn (or the rest of the site for that matter)
Couldn’t get a thing to load for a good 20 minutes.
Re: Article: MUSIC Group Buys Sound Forums Network
‘you’ in my above post meaning Music Group. I should have used ‘they’.
(This thread won’t let you edit postings)
Re: Article: MUSIC Group Buys Sound Forums Network
Do you know Uli?
Can you lend me a dollar?
JR
Good stuff, guys! Thanks for the chuckle…
Managing Editor of the Wall Street Journal, Ms.April Furst, says Music group stole SF.net at that price. Estimated value is closer to 1.75 billion US Dollars.
I see you have already put a portion of the $1.1 Billion into the lavish use of a red color throughout the site.
My congratulations, I look forward to all the other improvements the acquisition may entail.
I want my cut….
Re: Article: MUSIC Group Buys Sound Forums Network
+1 Regarding Tim’s comment. I will expect to see at least $1000000 in loyalty payments to be made to me for my financial donations and ” invaluable” intellectual contributions while SFN was getting off the ground. Thanks guys!8)~8-)~
Re: Article: MUSIC Group Buys Sound Forums Network
I find it a bit curious that the “DONATE” button still exists at the bottom of the page. What will our new overlord do with ALL OF THAT CASH? Now we know the REAL reason for the buyout!
Re: Article: MUSIC Group Buys Sound Forums Network
My blood was boiling until I realised it’s still April 1 in the USA. April 2 here in Aus! 😉
Hmm… interesting photo choice in a church!
Well played gentlemen.
Hey Michael, we were actually at Fogo de Chao, a Brazilian steakhouse 😉
