Collegedale, Tennessee — March 2015… Southern Adventist University (www1.southern.edu), recognized as one of the top tier southern regional colleges, recently took delivery of a substantial sound-reinforcement system incorporating loudspeakers drawn from the catalog of WorxAudio® Technologies, a division of PreSonus® Audio Electronics, Inc. Deployed in the Iles Physical Education Center, the facility upgrade includes elements from WorxAudio’s TrueLine and WaveSeries catalogs.
Sound Ventures / Lunar Cinema (www.SoundVenturesLunarCinema.com) of Knoxville, Tennessee, a AV production services and design firm dedicated to live events and select installations, was contracted to design and deploy the new sound system. Company president Dennis Farley discussed the project and his firm’s decision to install WorxAudio loudspeaker systems.
“The Iles Physical Education Center is a multi-purpose facility that is used for a wide range of activities,” Farley explained. “The venue includes three full-sized basketball courts and, in addition to sports and recreation, accommodates classes and worship services. The area measures 173 feet from the front of the stage to the back wall and 131 feet in width. It has a seating capacity of 2,460 people. As both classes and services take place here, it was important to install a system that provided a high level of speech intelligibility and first-rate music reproduction characteristics. After carefully evaluating our options, a line array system was clearly the best choice.”
The loudspeaker setup adjacent to the stage in the Iles Physical Education Center consists of 16 WorxAudio TrueLine V8 powered, 2-way, high-efficiency line array elements, with eight enclosures flown on each side. Atop each of these two clusters sits a TrueLine V215S powered subwoofer with dual 15-inch transducers. Each cluster is suspended with the WorxAudio TrueAim® Grid.
On the floor in front of the stage are two WorxAudio TL218S High SPL Super Subs. Each enclosure incorporates dual direct radiating, 18-inch, 2,000W cone drivers in a tuned enclosure, which provides maximum output with minimal distortion and smooth, extended low-frequency response. Completing the system are four WorxAudio UW2MX Ultra Wave II two-way stage monitors, powered by Crown amplifiers.

Second, we were looking for a full range system that would provide even coverage from front to back and side to side, with excellent speech intelligibility. The WorxAudio loudspeakers did just that. Finally, considering this space is used as a gymnasium, we also needed the loudspeakers to withstand the abuse of flying objects, such as basketballs.”
Farley was equally complimentary of WorxAudio’s customer- and technical-support services. “Hugh Sarvis, Jeff Page, and Tony Flammia are terrific to work with,” he said. “The WorxAudio team is top notch. They provide Sound Ventures with the right direction and information to ensure success for both us and our clients.”
The Iles Physical Education Center’s new loudspeaker system was installed in October 2014 and was placed into service immediately afterward. Gary Sewell, Associate Vice President of Information Systems at Southern Adventist University, reports he couldn’t be happier with the new system, “Everything is working better than we anticipated. The sound is just amazing. From small events to large, full-scale events, the sound is full and clear. The University’s audio/visual team is delivering better results, and the students have been pleased. This new sound system is a dramatic improvement.”
