German company Wireworx – Gesellschaft für audiovisuelle Medien mbH, is honoured with a Sinus – Systems Integration Award in the category „Corporate“. The Sinus – Systems Integration Award is awarded by trade show Prolight + Sound and pays tribute to projects distinguished by the innovative and future-oriented use of media technology and systems integration within complex projects. The award ceremony will be held during trade show Prolight + Sound in Frankfurt. The ceremony takes place on April 7th 2016 on the fairgrounds of Messe Frankfurt.

In the course of an extensive modernisation process of AV media technology in 63 lecture halls at University Stuttgart Wireworx GmbH acted as general planning company and was responsible for concept, planning, project management and commissioning of all relevant technology. The project of renewing the AV media technology and implementing a video management platform including a central control room started 2015 and will be finished at the end of 2016. In honour of the planning and installation of innovative concepts for knowledge transfer at universities realised during the project Wireworx receives a Sinus – Systems Integration Award, given by trade show Prolight + Sound.

With more than 25,000 students University of Stuttgart is among the largest universities in Germany. By history the different campuses are spread across the city. One goal of the renewal was to modernise and simplify the technology in the lecture halls, especially in connection with handling the system. On the other hand all new media technology had to be implemented in existing buildings and infrastructures and control of all 63 lecture halls should be possible using one single central control. Most of the faculties are located at campuses Vaihingen and city centre, further institutions are spread across the city.

The project
Besides the renewal of the AV media technology at University Stuttgart campuses city centre and Vaihingen, the goal was to establish an extensive video management platform and a central control room. A special challenge was the realisation of the project during ongoing lectures and operation of the campus.

A main aspect in modernising the AV media technology was to make available all lectures and seminars using the extensively implemented video management platform opencast2 and to combine these with the learning management system Ilias (both software applications are opencast developments of European universities). By doing so, all teachers have the opportunity to initiate and control the recording and transmission of lectures and seminars by themselves. All content recorded is available to students within the campus network as well as worldwide. All functionality of the recording and distribution process takes special care of German legal regulations of data security and personal rights, when it comes to video recordings executed at universities.

Integral part of the modernisation process is the implementation of a central control room that has access to all lecture halls. In case of problems in one lecture hall now it is possible via remote control to access the media control and media equipment in every room, thus solving problems location-independent. Using this system, technical staff at campus Vaihingen have access to and can solve problems at campus city centre and vice versa.

Sinus – Systems Integration Award
Sinus is an honorary award and has been given in different categories annually during Prolight + Sound, International Fair of Technologies and Services for Entertainment, Integrated Systems and Creation, since 2004.
