What songs do you tune your PA with ?

<big wide grin>

Well it wouldn't be a pro audio forum without this thread. We've had the kick drum thread.. what else is missing ?

If you get "The Funeral" by Band of Horses to sound smooth on a system just about everything will. If I only have time for a few seconds of system check it's my go to song as it seems to exaggerate whatever harshness is there. It's also a really good song, but that's beside the point for this thread, I guess.

Do many customers decide to buy a Lamborghini instead of a Ferrari because of car audio preference?

Lambos and Ferraris have two very different customer bases. If you are concerned with the radio in a Ferrari you are actually a Lambo customer.

Re: What songs do you tune your PA with ?

Lots of great answers, and some more material for me to scout out and audition.

I use a fair variety of cuts.

Our own stuff(because I was there at the sessions, mixdowns, etc.)-you know what it's supposed to sound like hopefully.
Some of the Telarc recordings, mostly classical.
Jazz-Brubeck, Jamal, Krall, Gene Harris(especially off one of the Concord Jazz Festival albums live), typically-for different reasons.
Rock-Gabriel, ZZ Top, Police, CSN, Talking Heads, Buffett, and many many more...
Blues-Buddy Guy's "Blues Singer"-stellar recording job. SRV "In Step".
More Irish and other Celtic stuff.

I'm probably the only sound person around who doesn't like Steely Dan.

Best regards,

John

As A touring front of house engineer and i would asume more new school then most on the forum... I love to use Lil john and dj snake - turn down for what on the subs, we came as romans - present, future, and past as a general all around track, and Imogen heap - hide and seek.

Re: What songs do you tune your PA with ?

Hello,

I asked Pete Thompson (he's the Monitor Engineer with Steely Dan) this question.... and his Emailed response was: The Muppets Show Theme Song - YouTube

Cheers,
Hammer
Since we are digging in the dirt, I sold a sound system to Vee Corporation who did the Muppets live shows, but the "tune ups" that some engineers provided to the cast members should never be posted ;^)...

Lately I've been using the track "Lifeline" by The Panic Division. It rocks. On occasion, I get asked for the track from BE's.

This is just for listening though, for tuning I use pink noise from Noise Colors (Pink Noise | Noise Colors™) - this pink noise is extra-powerful and particularly useful for seriously boosting your concentration levels.
