smaart 7 how many mics ?

Re: smaart 7 how many mics ?

I have a hard time getting more than 2 mics rolling without running out of time and mic cable. I gotta get on this wireless bandwagon. Anyone know if lectrosonics and audix figured out the issue with TM1's yet ?

Re: smaart 7 how many mics ?

The new loopback function is nice, but could potentially skew the transfer function, depending on the interface you use.
Shouldn't be an issue at all unless the clocks inside the interface are not synchronized. I do know that the older USBPre doesn't work with this feature, but my OctaCapture works flawlessly with the internal loopback function. No concern of skewed results at all.

Hmm,

Which would be faster and more cost effective in practice?

8 mics with cables and stands into an octopre...

or

1 mic on stand through Lectrosonics wireless?

The Lectrosonics TM400 is worth several mics, at least. Having 8 mics is well and good, but I for one cannot carry enough cable to get them where I need. In an arena (and let's not even talk about outdoors) I need to wrangle about 300' of mic cable to get required measurements. It has to get moved every time I move the mic. Going up into a balcony is a multi-step process. 2-3 mics, 1-2 of which are wireless, is pretty good. I can usually only get enough DSP to zone a line array into three sections anyway.

I think he means that any limitations in the interface will be revealed because it is now included in the measurement path.

Why can't it be both?

4-6 mics using the lectro rig (Venue VR), and an octa capture for gain reporting and all the other goodness it has going for it.

Ha ha, the picture was supposed to go with the post below.....

This is the live average of 4 mics placed in half of a very unforgiving and empty room while the entire PA was on. I left the 4 traces "ON" for the purpose of posting this picture. 1 mic is centered between left and right, and the other 3 are in various locations on the house right side. The room and PA are symmetrical.

Yes. If the pre colors the frequency response at all, you'd want that coloration added to the reference signal as well.
True that, particularly if you are using a really cheap interface. Very easy to verify by comparing traces stored with an internal loopback vs. an external one, and even then, most anomalies typically appear at the extreme edges of the specified frequency response.
