Allen & Heath GLD pricing

Re: May the mouths water

We'll see if any of these guesses are correct - 24x12 stage box and 8x4 mini stage box, 32ch of processing. Not compatible with the current modular and fixed-format ranges. Cheaper physical components, but same sound quality. No digital IO expansion slot option. MAP for largest system around $13k. Target market - LS9 and V-Mix clients. We may end up installing a bunch of these in smaller churches.

I predict you're right about the stage boxes (you can pretty much tell this from the picture). I hope there are more than 32 channels of processing and a MAP of much less than $13K - going down in IO and up in price from the LS9 would make me pretty disappointed.

Re: May the mouths water

Zooming in on the picture of the snake, the top jack of the 3U snake is labeled "Expander" - In 25-32, Out 13-16, and the CAT5 jack of the 1U box also says "Expander".

I guess if there's some IO on the surface so the system is a 32+8, this would be OK. I'm curious if the brain is still in the stage box, or if they've brought it to the surface.

How so? The sound quality (if same as iLiveT) is significantly better than the LS9, and it has a digital snake. Add the ES digital snake boxes to the LS9 to keep apples to apples, factor in ease of use, and even at $14k I'd much rather take it over an LS9. I used to sorta like the LS9, but now even the Roland M480 is arguably better, and the iLive in any flavor is a top pick by a wide margin.

That of course depends on one's priorities. For me, I highly desire the ability to go beyond 32 channels. A digital snake is nice to have, but doesn't help me if I can't fit my show on the console. The sound quality of the LS9 is adequate for my needs.

If this system is $14K and not expandable and of lower build quality than the ILive T, that's a poor value compared to just a few thousand more to get the T112 + rack.

I think that's it's easy to assume the larger box is 24x12 and the "expander" adds another 8in/4out (32x16 now). I suppose that the rack is the brain, and all the processing, even for the expander, goes through it. I'd sure like to know the pricing, I guess I'll have to hold my breath. I feel the iDR16 was very competitively priced compared to the LS9-16, so I'm just guessing that this will be an impressive value... er, hoping. The 2 USB ports looks like a nice idea, and on that screen I see a "direct out" tab. I'm wondering if that corresponds to the USB recording? If you can multitrack from the board right on to a flash drive that would be a great feature for a "distinctly analogue price".

I would like to see further speculation. This beats the hell out of iPhone 5 rumors.

That's funny and it's what I was thinking as I read people debating the features of a product that has not yet been released!

Re: May the mouths water

I guess it's just human nature, when something is coming out to gleefully imagine all the things you'd like to see in the thing.

I literally heard yesterday a guy say with a straight face that he thought the new iphone would have a holographic projector, so you could set it down and have a full sized computer monitor. I keep up with technology so that seemed pretty crazy to me, but it made the idea exciting to him.

Re: May the mouths water

Manufacturers do watch forums like this for early reactions to the product. Certainly A&H have a target set for a new product long before a teaser preannouncement, but often one of the last things announced is price, as they gather as much information as they can before making their bid to the world.

A&H is suffering from a mediocre reaction to the ILive line due to negative brand name association from previous products, and stiff competition from Digico and others. It will be interesting to see how serious they are about going after the lower mid market. If Caleb is right and this thing is $13K, IMO they are missing the boat (and will miss my money). It's too close in price to other products - even A&H's ILive to be a serious offering considering the apparent limitation of 32 channels. If this thing streets at $7K - $8K, they will sell gobs of them, and probably one of them to me.

It is clear from the picture that some type of USB recording is included. I'd bet it's stereo only like the LS9, but I would be happy to be wrong.

Re: May the mouths water

I'd be VERY interested in a 'mid-market' digital board.

The 'sound' of the StudioLive just sounds 'flat' to me... and knowing A&H, theirs will sound better.

What will also be interesting is to see if the rumored QSC + Greg Mackie board is revealed at NAMM '12.

What I'm looking for in a digital board:
$3000-$5000 range for the full 'starter' kit -- includes:
Rackmountable Touchscreen Console with iPad / iPhone / Droid compatible software over WiFi
(8) total outs... (2) for mains + (6) aux mixes
16 or 24 Channel Inputs and 8 Channel Outs 'Box' on Stage
Ethercon connector to the Console
4 EQ per channel, Parametric, Low Pass, High Pass, Sweepable high and low pass, etc...
Compression each channel
Editable FX each channel '
Assignable 'Compression on the main and aux outs
Expandable rack In/Outs Record to Laptop over USB.

So yeah, I basically want a better version of the StudioLive... and am willing to pay a bit more for that premium. I'm not in the market for an iLive, or PT Venue etc.... but I want something better than a StudioLive or SI Compact. I think A&H really has a chance to fill that void in the market for us local/regional high-end GB/Cover bands that want to move beyond their MixWiz3 / Onyx / O1V boards.

Re: May the mouths water

Surface is similar to the T80 - 12 + 8 faders. Surface has a little IO, can run the snake plus two expanders for a total of 44 mic pres into 24 XLR outs. 20 mix busses. The monitor port is Aviom compatible. 2-track recording to USB, expansion card for connection to Dante, existing ILive mix racks, etc. Price is supposedly "in the range" of the GL Analogs.

My mouth is definitely watering!!!
