Just wondering if anyone has a favourite reference book on electroacoustics? Ideally with solid sections on loudspeakers and mapping driver parameters into enclosure designs. Something like a university textbook, not a cookbook. (The more I dabble in building loudspeaker enclosures, the more I realise I need to learn the basics.)

Best,
Michael

Re: Reference books on electroacoustics?

"Theory & Design of Loudspeaker Enclosures" J.E. Benson (a fellow Austrailian) isbn 0-7906-1093-0 (syn-aud-con published it)
there's a great picture of Klipsch, Ashley, Theile, Benson and Small together in the frontpeice
And althoufgh you said no cookbooks try "The Loudspeaker Design Cookbook" Vance Dickason isbn 1-882580-33-8 (sixth edition) Old Colony Sound Labs (AudioXpress) not sure whats the current edition

cheers,
ferrit

Michael,

You'll want the late Dr. Marshall Leach's book: http://www.amazon.com/INTRODUCTION-...=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1325374935&sr=1-1

And Sound System Engineering:
http://www.amazon.com/Sound-System-...=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1325375038&sr=1-1

and high performance loudspeakers by Martin Colloms:
http://www.amazon.com/High-Performa...=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1325375145&sr=1-1

When I have a bit more time, I'll dig up the proper AES loudspeaker anthology references for you, too.

Rob, Martyn, Phil, thanks very much. This is perfect.

By accident I met Small and his wife at dinner in NYC, during the AES Convention in October. Both very charming. The restaurant was noisy and I was sitting opposite at a round table of 7, so we couldn't easily talk about all this fun stuff.

I met Paul Klipsh and Neville Theile (seperate occasions) industry giants, yet really humble guys.

Re: Reference books on electroacoustics?

Basic Acoustics by Donald Hall.

A bit advanced for the layman, has more higher order calculus than pictures.
