Eaw la 325 help needed.

Re: Eaw la 325 help needed.

Thanks for the replies, info on crossovers, and help offered.

Can't swing the price of a 8800 right now but will look into it more. just hope this never happens, whats this all about?

EAW UX8800 a Mackie product? - YouTube[/QU

Are there even focused settings for the LA line of boxes ? if not the mx8750 should work fine and can be had at a much lower cost. There was an issue with a few of the early runs of the UX processor that would make some of them click on and off rapidly, the issue has been fixed. The fact that it says mackie is a marketing problem lol.

Re: Eaw la 325 help needed.

LOUD Technologies bought Mackie, which bought EAW. Sun Capital Partners bought LOUD.

I think I have that in the right order... if not, I'm sure someone will correct me.

Hmm What's this?! Someone's been scraping PSW.

Well I think what Silas is implying is that although other units WILL work, but the EAW controllers will work the BEST (when used with EAW's recommended settings). On the other hand, you could also get D.B. Mannion over at Joe's (or anyone who uses a tool like SMAART for that matter) to do a system alignment with your speakers and processor of choice. However, the optimal settings for one brand's processor are not necessarily optimal on the next brand. There is not a universal set of filter standards that all companies agree upon.

P.S. If the LA325s have been Gunness Focused, then ignore what I said above. That is a whole different story.

Re: Eaw la 325 help needed.

Only EAW DSP units will work with the EAW settings.

And Powersoft DSP amps.

Alan, EAW in the past has offered settings for aftermarket DSP platforms, but your real best bet is to get an EAW processor. They are not hard to find. I have never met two DSPs that processed the same signal in the same way given the same settings, assuming you can even enter the same settings.

Re: Eaw la 325 help needed.

Alan,

Looks like you've got the wrong diaphragm. The one on the right is (probably?) an MMD3ATN8M, our all titanium dome for the DE75TN. You seem to have determined that EAW is using the DE75 (not TN). I honestly don't know whether that is correct, but Charlie probably does so I suspect he's steered you right. The only difference between the two is which diaphragm they take. Judging by the photo of the original diaphragm, and the aftermarket one on the left, you probably really want an MMD3A8M, which is our titanium dome with polymer surround (used in the DE75 among others). The two diaphragms have a slightly different character, and you want to make sure they're matched to what's in the rest of your boxes.

I don't know anything about the aftermarket diaphragms available, but I do know a thing or two about what it takes to make one of ours. I would buy the genuine item, anything made right is going to have to cost nearly as much, otherwise they're not keeping close enough tolerances or using the right grade of titanium and glues.

.

The box's came with the diaphragms on the left. 1 was burnt and shorted and 4 db ish down from the other, the other still good. So I called Us speakers, talked to Al, he said these are the B + C stock Diaphragms, the ones on the right. MMD3ATN8M is whats pictured on the right and I have two of them.

Now you say I should use the non TN ?

Besides sound difference, is the power handling the same?

And who is Charlie?

Charlie is Charlie Tappa of Pro Sound Service in Braintree, Mass. Pro Sound Service is the B&C master distributor for the USA.

Whoops. I ASSumed you were talking to Charlie since he's our master service center. Al is also great at that sort of thing and is a distributor.

The only difference between the two diaphragms is the surround, some people prefer one to the other. They will handle the same power. I think they're even the same price. However, there may be a difference in impedance due to the more compliant plastic surround, which may or may not matter. They also do not have identical frequency response for the same reason. It's probably not a big deal, but I would try and match whatever the box was supposed to use (which may not be the same as what it came with, it's easier to make a plastic surround).
