Presonus VSL with Smaart?

Re: Presonus VSL with Smaart?

I wish yamaha would keep up with the software side of things... if VSL gets more I am going to regret my 01v96 :(

And layers. The Studiolive doesn't, so it doesn't need moving faders.

I don't agree Silas.
If you can change the fader level from any place other than the surface, it needs moving faders in my opinion. Otherwise the surface may have no relationship to what the setting are which, again, in my opinion, makes it a total non-starter for me.

Re: Presonus VSL with Smaart?

True. It's not for everyone, but it fits my needs perfectly. I dont even use the faders, I usually mix remotely via iPad unless it's a particularly tricky band. Then I'm right there anyway.

Re: Presonus VSL with Smaart?

Really looking forward to this new feature. With a good measurement mic and pink noise it should allow me to configure custom presets for my Crown Xti amps for specific speakers without the need for a separate stand alone RTA device.

I see it has 1/3 octave eq and Spectra but does it have a way to compare sound source to speaker output? It would be limited as to what you could do with it if it doesn't. Great for feedback I guess.

Re: Presonus VSL with Smaart?

It was just released last week. It is kind of cool but not what a lot of folks were expecting. It is just the RTA and Spectagraph functions and they are only implemented on the graphic EQs. You can apparently play around a bit and find a way to run pink through the system and use it to adjust the house EQ or you can use it on monitor mix EQs for a visual reference but you cannot use it to "align" (or whatever the proper term is) a rig like you can with the full multichannel FFT of the actual SMAART product.
I will probably go ahead and update mine after this weekends gigs but not really for the SMAART integration - there are a few other features in the update that Im more interested in.
