X32 V2 firmware

There have been several requests by Uli and other music group posters for the community to make requests for enhancements to go into the V2 firmware. I thought I would see if it was useful to start a separate thread so that these could be collated & so perhaps people could re-iterate them here.

I also think it would be useful if Behringer themselves could identify what is currently scheduled for V2 - not only would this be good for their marketing but also negate the necessity of asking for things that are already scheduled.

Re: X32 V2 firmware

I was looking at my old Behringer DDX3216 facilities the other day and there are a few minor and some major things that this did that I would like to see included in V2.

1. The ability to A/B settings for EQ, Dynamics and effects
2. Improvement of copy and paste facility - in the DDX software a copy of selected parameters could be made from one channel to multiple channels in one go by selecting the source channel the parameters to copy and then finally all the destination channels
3. Saving to external media ( in the case of the DDX this was a flash card but for X32 USB) - all the desk settings or subsets thereof. Currently with the X32 you can save a scene or a show but this will not encompass any preset libraries. I may have missed it but with presets you only seem to be able to save individual ones - it would be nice to be able to save a whole library.
4. Concerning pre-sets - though you can configure what elements can be saved to an individual preset - it would be useful to (also) have separate libraries for especially EQ and dynamics - at the moment you can save presets for these individual elements but they can get jumbled up with each other.
5. Effects sends - though less effects engines on the DDX - there were dedicated effects send busses - leaving 16 busses for general use.
6. Integration with an external recording device (NOT DAW remote control!)- the XUF interface is great but with the DDX you also had synced transport control plus marker points built in via a midi interface. If Midi not the way they want to go could this be implemented using OSC.
7. Which also brings me to Dynamic automation of mixdowns on the desk – OK this was limited to two versions at any time – but one the mix could be built up using these plus – a mix setting could be archived ( along with all other desk settings if required) for recall. This automation covered all parameters on the desk and even scene changes. OK on the DDX there were dedicated controls for this i.e. arming channels for recording and playback of automation - but there must me a software way of doing this either via the screen of say the xcontrol. This all tied in with the transport control - so that recording of automation and playback could be be from a marker point in the transport control.
8. Re scenes - there was also a fade time for scene changes that could be specified - maybe useful for some
9. Group function - Ok the X32 has DCA's - but the ability to group a number of faders ( not necessarily adjacent as with pairs) would be useful.
10. RE expansion cards - certainly a word clock to be incorporated in one would be good - plus adats in and out.

Re: X32 V2 firmware

- Mute group behavior options (i.e. mute groups to work like analog boards, not unmuting individual channel mutes when unmuting the mute group).
- Ability to insert "empty" (preset?) channel between two others. Maybe this is more about moving channels, without having to copy/paste the entire drum kit over one to make room for another vocal mic. or such.

Re: X32 V2 firmware

My primary wishes for V2 mostly relate to plugins and mix related features.

Some of these have been discussed previously.

- A sample replacement plugin along the lines of Slate Trigger or Drumagog, whereby the user can load a sample (from USB presumably) and either replace or blend it with the original source. Primary use would be for drums.

- Integrated spectrum analyser on channel/bus EQ screens

- Multiband compressor along the lines of Waves C4 or similar

- Tape emulator or similar "analogish" plugin, along the lines of Cranesong Phoenix etc.

- 1176 style compressor

- Realtime pitch correction along the lines of Autotune, V Vocal, PitchCorrect, MuVoice, etc, with a very simplified UI.

Some are easier to implement than others, but all of them would be pretty significant additions that would be really popular and would round out the plugin feature set.

Re: X32 V2 firmware

My requests are few, but probably shared by more than me.

I would love to be able to toggle the view so that the PC control screen view would follow the X32 screen. This would be helpful when doing X32 tutorials

I would like the user buttons to "page view capture", so that we could assign button 1 to MIX graph A, and user button #2 to Mix graph B, and not have to page down.

I would like a straight pitch change effect (course, and fine). think yamaha SPX90 pitch shift

Improve the USB playback + recorder stability - I had it crash a couple times on me creating corrupt files on the USB. I had a pc with me to delete the file other wise it wouldn't find the key after the crash.

That's all I can think of for now.

Re: X32 V2 firmware

My wishes:

- multiband comps in the FX section, I would be fine with something along a Triple C

- Stereo GEQ should be ditched in favour of a Link option in the Dual Mono GEQ, cool would be relative and absolute mode, with the possibility to switch from absolute to relative without loosing settings

- "page view capture", like Shane Presley called it, is clearly needed,
though I would like to see an alternative approach with "view inserted FX" of selected channel/bus

Re: X32 V2 firmware

My wish list is for more Saved Scene Files space and the ability to be able to insert a scene between two existing ie: Insert a 1.1 inbetween 1 and 2 for example

I do a lot of small scale musical theatre and these additions would be fantastic ontop of what is already my favourite bit of gear :)

Re: X32 V2 firmware

these are mine requests :)

multiband compression

better deesser (can be skipped if the multiband has enough bands)

a way to move channel strips, or even better custom layers (one could use a set user-def keys to navigate custom layers)

pultec style emu

1176, la3a emu

a parametric eq in the fx rack (many users prefer it for ringing out)

the possibility to choose an allpass filter in the matrix eq ( i could let the external xover at home if you could add this feature!!! pls pls)
Allpass1k.png

waves soundgrid card (this could solve all the new plugin emu requests)!

Re: X32 V2 firmware

- allow any and all effects to be used in any of the 8 fx slots, so one "could" have up to 8 fx send/return if they wanted
- have a dual-mono delay fx slot (short/long delay)
- Naming channels: allow to tab through the channels in xControl to name them
- allow a larger hard drive on USB to record, not just a thumb drive (perhaps this can be done now? Not sure)
- Playback from iPod to USB input, and charge as well

110 minutes is approx. 1Gb. This means that a 32Gb thumb drive can record at least 3500 minutes or almost 60hrs of audio.

I haven't tried any 64Gb thumb drives yet but that one alone would hold almost 5 days of non-stop recording...

Re: X32 V2 firmware

Just my two wishes to be integrated into the firmware:

- surround mix capability, at least 5.1, best 7.1
- EUCON protocol support (maybe a bridge from OSC protocol to EUCON for different OS could be also helpful).

Re: X32 V2 firmware

For me...

  • Specific "Admin" mode with password.
  • Ability to lock-down routing. Admin password required to change routing.
  • Ability to tag a scene or preset as Admin. Anyone can recall the scene but the Admin password is required to save over or update it. This is something even the LS9 can't do.

Re: X32 V2 firmware

Sorry to bump an old thread, but has anyone heard any rough timelines for the V2 firmware release, or any statements of some of the things to be included? Seems the most recent firmware updates are useful but have more to do with supporting new products and editor versions etc than adding new features. Not that I'm complaining, the X32 has been a fantastic purchase.....

The timescale was "end of the year". We are a long way from that at present, so I'd not expect to hear anything till, say, November.

Seem to remember last year it was 2nd q this year - nice if they could release some of the firmware upgrades as they are developed - leaving any major new Card interfaces until the full V2 launch. Plus would not mind a list of what is currently scheduled to be incorporated.

Intermediate releases soak up development and especially regression testing resources, so it makes sense NOT to do them frequently.
