Relay for life events

I have a sound production company in Georgia and was wondering if I'm being paid fairly. We provide 2 JBL SRX 728 subs per side and about 4 SRX 722's per side plus monitors for $1200.00. Is this low/high/just right for what ACS usually pays?

Re: Relay for life events

Less than I get paid for mine but more than they want to pay. Keep in mind that the hours suck, but everyone there is making a sacrifice for someone they love. If you decide that you are okay with the pay and do a good job then you will have a apply client or years. I've been doing mine for about 9 years now, except one year when the local group didn't have enough participants due to the economy to warrant paying for sound. The DJ brought in a tiny rig to play through that year.

As a side note, even though I don't make any profit on the one I do, I have met many people there over the years tat have hired my services for other events that I would never have know about. I have probably gotten more jobs because of the relay than from any other annual event that I do. The people involved in the relays are often involved in many other community services and activities, they are good people to know.

Probably all you are going to get. How many events do you do?

Last three years we've done from 10 to 12 events, all crammed in from March to April and sometimes May. We did put up a VerTec rig (9 per side of the '87's) and got a little more compensation. We actually enjoy doing the events and making new friends but I have to keep an eye on that bottom line. Thanks for your reply.

Re: Relay for life events

Folks in this area wouldn't dream of paying that well for a relay event. I couldn't get a repeat at half that. Doing a benefit concert this year for a nearby relay group; when asked about pricing I said, "you'll be able to afford it". They had the good fortune to call between my wife's diagnosis and surgery for breast cancer. She is recovering well and the folks we will be working with on this one have been supportive and recommended us for other jobs in the past. We try to balance what we do to support our organization with supporting others. We're still here after 20 years so I guess it's working.

But I just get a generic shirt

Whenever we give a big discount for charity events, we at a minimum get our name on the sponsors list, but we're very selective of what charities we work for.
