Uli Behringer of The Music Group Q&A

Re: Uli Behringer of The Music Group Q&A

Dear Jason,

thank you for your question.

The DCX2496 is indeed one of the most popular products in our Company history.

We are currently developing concepts for cross-overs based on a very different and more intuitive user interface. However at this stage we cannot reveal more.

Warm regards

Uli

Really? The DCX 2496 is one if the easiest processors to setup that I have ever used.

Re: Uli Behringer of The Music Group Q&A

hi Uli:
Not trying to deviate from the current discussion.
Any news on the release dates for FCA1616 and ADA 8200 yet.
Dying to try them out.

Thanks

Re: Uli Behringer of The Music Group Q&A

We are currently developing concepts for cross-overs based on a very different and super-intuitive remote control via tablet.
I just realized that an X32 core with firmware specialized for crossover duties would make a very nice crossover. This would probably require removing the mixer functionality from the firmware to free up space/dsp processing power for crossover functionality like on the matrixbusses of the X32. Hmm, up to 32 inputs, at least 24 (matrixbus-)outputs, all digital on 2 AES50 ports in only 1U. I hope my guess is close to what Behringer is developing...

Re: Uli Behringer of The Music Group Q&A

Dear Dan,

thank you for your question.

We have now received the outstanding firmware from Archwave for the FCA models and we're in the final testing stage. We're confident that manufacturing can start next month.

The delay for the ADA8200 was caused by the incompatibility of the Alesis Wavefront/Alesis with certain Motu devices. We had discovered this issue with the predecessor ADA8000.

We will be starting mass production of the ADA8200 next month, however since we are using the same ADAT chips, we are issuing a disclaimer since the unit will not work properly in conjunction with certain MOTU devices and configurations.

The ADA8000/ADA8200 should not be used with any models of the MOTU 2408 audiointerface under the following circumstance:
- The MOTU 2408 is connected to a MOTU PCI-424 card and operating in PCI Mode under computer control
- The ADA8000/ADA8200 SYNC option is set to SLAVE and the clock input is being supplied from the MOTU 2408
- The optical output from the ADA8000 ADAT interface is connected to an ADAT input on the MOTU 2408

We are currently in the process of designing our own semiconductors which will resolve this limitation.

Warm regards

Uli

Dear Peter,

thanks for your question.

The current X32 firmware already provides for full cross-over functionality. The X32 Core uses the same architecture and hence offers this feature, too.

Warm regards

Uli

Thanks for your reply!

I know that the X32 has x-over functionality on the matrixbusses, but it only has 6 matrixbusses which is not sufficient for a stereo 3-way PA plus ~6 wedges. My point was that Behringer could develop a firmware specialized for x-over duties (more matrixbusses at the cost of other functionality) for the X32 platform (next to the normal mixer firmware). Then you can stop developing new hardware for a dcx2496 replacement: you would only have to supply different firmware with eg a X32 core to make it a x-over product. (Business wise that would mean 2 products based on the same hardware, so lower cost because of higher volume...)

Warm regards,
Peter, happy X32 user

Re: Uli Behringer of The Music Group Q&A

Dear Barrett,

The NU12000 is currently in the Safety and FCC testing stage and we are quite confident to start production in Q2.

Warm regards

Uli

Thank you very much for your response. I know many people both in the pro audio and home audio realms that are eagerly awaiting for this amp to be released. I truly believe it would be a game changer that will shock the entire pro amp industry.

Re: Uli Behringer of The Music Group Q&A

Hi Uli,

Thanks for taking the time to answer some questions on the forum, its good to get some insight.

I have a couple of questions if i may?

Will the NU12000 be 6000W per channel at 2 ohms, or at 6000W per channel at 4 ohms as is currently stated on your website. IIRC it previously said 6000W at 2 ohms, and if you Google theirs many other sites saying its 6000W at 2 ohms.

2 ohms makes more sense to me, assuming people are using 8 ohm drivers which the vast majority are, 1500W is plenty for pretty much all drivers. I thought it was going to be a 2 ohm stable version of the NU6000? I cant see it being that popular if its 6000W at 4 ohms, as there are very few drivers capable of handling that kind of power.

Also, i have a DCX2496 that i bought 2nd hand, it works fine but it outputs a loud "pop" when the unit is powered down around -4dB i think which is a problem as I set my limiters low and run my amp attenuators open.
I don't think i am covered by any warranty but i was just wondering if you might have any idea what is causing it, from swapping out boards with one of my other units i have traced the problem down to the main board, not the power supply or the output board. I haven't tried your new service center yet, your old service center couldn't help as i have no warranty on this unit (purchased 2nd hand)

Many thanks

James

Re: Uli Behringer of The Music Group Q&A

Dear James,

thanks for your questions.

The NU12000 actually houses two NU6000 amplifiers that operate in bridge-mode. This does not allow for a 2 Ohm operation which was indicated on a preliminary spec sheet and has since been corrected.

I believe that the very first DCX2496's had no mute circuitry in the output stages, which sounds like the effect you are experiencing. However, this issue was corrected many years ago by adding an auto-mute fuction during power-up and down cycling. I can only assume that your unit must be around 8-10 years old.

Hope this information helps.

Warm regards

Uli

Re: Uli Behringer of The Music Group Q&A

Thank You Uli for all the information, when will the ADA8200 will be in German stores?

I'm coaching a handicapped Rockband (SELF) here in Germany and we have three ADA8200 for recording since 2005, I believe. One stopped working yesterday, is there a chance to get it fixed at Behringer and how much will it be?

And a last question, are you interested in sponsoring our handicapped band? If so please PM me;-)
We are using some Behringer equipment for years now (Subwoofers, PA-Boxes, Mixers, Poweramps, DI-Boxes) already.

Is there a chance that the DCX2496 (and other silver faced units) will be produced with a black or other dark-colored face in the future?

Also, what are your thoughts about opening a large repair facility to cover the Eastern half of the United States?

Re: Uli Behringer of The Music Group Q&A

Also, what are your thoughts about opening a large repair facility to cover the Eastern half of the United States?

Hi Aaron,

At this point, I have not given any thought to opening a MUSIC Group owned care facility in the eastern part of the US. When selecting the location for our Care Center in Las Vegas, we looked at options on the east coast, west coast and in the central states. We scored each potential location based on number of different factors outside of cost to insure that we could maintain a high level of service for all customers including transit times, availability of the right skill set, etc. Las Vegas came out on top in every category we scored.

Even though our company repair center is located in Las Vegas, we still maintain an excellent network of Authorized Service Centers throughout the US, Canada and Europe to assist with local repair options.

If there are any other questions that I can answer for you as they relate to the service operations, please do not hesitate to ask.

Re: Uli Behringer of The Music Group Q&A

Thanks Uli,

Those NU1200s are going to be beasts then, theres not many amps that can do 6000W@ 4ohms...

The date code on the DCX is 0609, which makes it about 6 and a half years old, so possably not the issue you thought?
dcxthump.JPG
This is a recording of the pop padded down with a DI box, I dont get it on power up, just the usual little click i get with my other DCXs, the bang comes about a second after i switch the unit off. Do you have ay other ideas of what might be causing it? It would be good to get it usable and back into service.

Many thanks.

James

Re: Uli Behringer of The Music Group Q&A

Dear James,

If you have swapped the output board and power supply, the problem probably resides within the main board. The main board can be purchased as a spare part from our CARE Parts Department. Another option would be to send in the unit for repair. I will also PM you some procedures to further narrow down the potential cause of the problem.

Re: Uli Behringer of The Music Group Q&A Question and suggestion Re ,X32

Thank you Mr. Behringer in advance for reading my request. :D~:-D~

Hi My name is Barry And I am a proud owner of your X32 and use it in my recording studio.

I feature pictures of the X32 in my Studio on my web site at Welcome To Sandcastle Recording Studio - Home

I was wondering if you could place more educational webnars which focus on using the X32 in a recording environment.

These could include using up to date DAW software such as Protools 10, Cubase 7 64 Sonar X2 .

I believe there is excellent market potential for this product in the low to mid level studio environment.

This is due the number or analog I/O as well as the DAW remote control, the sound quality and the features for price point offered by this product.

Symbiotic to this, is the fact that there is a void in this market area for this type of product.

The recording community has shifted to the in the box technology.

There are fewer large format studios operating due to the million dollar equipment costs verses the hourly rate they can charge.

The professional home studio market is growing due to the high quality of product produced at a much lower cost.

The equipment costs for smaller studios still remains very high. If one wants to have the same combination of quality ,integration and features in a hybrid

system equal to what the X32 has the potential of delivering, one could pay upwards to 20 or 30 thousand dollars.

I believe you could have a game changer in the recording market equal or even greater to what the X32 has in the live sound market place.

All that is needed is more education and awareness of this product for this purpose.

I know many people who would be very interested in this product if only the recording abilities were better represented.

I have an X32 and love it but I still feel I need more educational and support resources to get the most out of it in the studio.

Thank you for reading my request.

Cheers

Barry.

Re: Uli Behringer of The Music Group Q&A Question and suggestion Re ,X32

Dear Barry,

thank you for the great comments.

Studio users are extremely important to us and we have been carefully watching this space. With the X32 Producer soon to be shipped, this model was specifically designed to address the needs of the Studio user community.

While we have hosted multiple webinars and published videos about the integration of DAW's such as Reaper, Protools etc. with the X32, we have incredible news coming for you.

Please check in a few days when the Frankfurt PL&S show opens. You will be very pleased.

Warm regards

Uli

Hey Uli,
It's great that you are so involved with answering everyone's questions about the X 32.I wish you would be as involved with the Midas Pro series. While you have some great customer support with Midas, things I would like to see are some new videos specific to the Ppro 1 and a new manual that covers just the basic operation of the Pro1.The current online manual is 550 pages long.A Midas Pro1 for "Dummies" type manual would be great since this console will see alot of users in the church, school and small sound company type markets..I bought a Pro1 about a month ago and it's a great board. It is my opinion the manual isn't geared toward the group that will be using it..The videos currently online are geared toward the Pro 6,not the Pro1. I have had great support from Jason at Midas UK and Kyle at Midas USA,but new videos and a manual geared toward the Pro 1 would be really helpful.Thanks.
