Re: A&H QU info leaked a day early

ASSuming this is correct, it is compatible with the GLD stage racks, and even surpasses the GLD in a few areas such as multitrack recording

Re: A&H QU info leaked a day early

Looks promising! I have been interested in replacing my 01V96 with 16 XLR input digital board for the smaller shows.

I do like the fact it is GLD-AR2412 is compatable; I wonder what the channel count is limited to? Example with the LS9-32, I can add a couple cards to raise the channel count to 64 XLRs.

Re: A&H QU info leaked a day early

Cool looking board. The SRP if $2200 USD is not too out of line either. I'm guessing we'll see these at under $2K street, easily.

Now, if it can be used with the stage boxes to get more than 16 channels, that would be killer. I'd be really surprised if it didn't have that capability.

Details, high-res images and documents posted.

Qu-16 | ALLEN & HEATH // WORLD CLASS MIXING

Looks like its limited to 16 input channels (not expandable); with 4 mono mixes and 3 stereo mixs on monitor.

16 mono input channels, three TRS stereo channels appears to be both the board config and what's available from the AR2412, so 22* channels. I have no problem running keys and OH's into stereo channels. My typical multi-act drum mics are kick and 2 OH's processed via a DBX DDP to regulate the cymbal content (prior to the bleed through the vox mics), so one mono input and one stereo input for the kit. Aphex 207 tube pre for the OH's into the DDP in a stage box which also houses the backline drop snake box.

So for the multi-act, throw and go stages, 22 inputs (or 20) with 16+2+2(+2) should be just fine. As to the monitor mixes, there is a bit of wiggle room there. If you sacrifice "stereo", you still have 7 mono monitor mixes.....or 4m/3s, 5m/2s, 6m/1s. Future software tweaks may well address this and make it user configurable.

For anything requiring more than this you'll need to break out your larger console........but this will cover a lot of the day-to-day gigs and give a pretty fair and rapid ROI. From a business standpoint it's very nice. From the "Hey! I'm a sound-guy!" point of view, nothing will ever be good enough or cheap enough........

Re: A&H QU info leaked a day early

Thats too bad. seems like a misstep imo given the competition.

Jared....

See Post #10 on page 1 of this thread. Think about how you can use what's available. IMO, you're jumping the gun on judging the product if you can't see how you can use the stereo channels to expand beyond the 16 mono inputs that are currently available.

Re: A&H QU info leaked a day early

Chris - The QU is smaller than an R72, about the same size as a Mixwiz with the pod down, slightly taller than an 01v96... does this help your quandary?

It certainly puts it in perspective, it just seems like it could have been made a bit flatter for "console only" cases. Makes more sense now that we have a picture of the back of it though.

Sorry I was responding to if what Matt says is true and it cannot be expanded via the digital snake. I really do hope you can do that. The announcement wasn't exactly clear on what it can and cannot do (to me anyway) so it is certainly possible I misread it.

But I will say that given the players and features in this current market segment, it seems to me that it would make sense to come out swinging with this product and really take market share. We know what the competition offers, lets make sure to hit those points and then some. Even if they dont plan to implement features in the initial release, at least give a statement of "this is what he plan to do with it". I understand you don't want to give out too much "do it later" info as that can backfire.

Dont get me wrong I am excited about this product. I can already see where I can use it and it benefits me. I simply have more questions on how it will all work and fit into plans. And I know its just the first day :) so that information will come in time.

I like the Sprinter vans. Too bad they're all the same size and don't come in the color I want........

Why don't the car companies ask me what I want before they design and build stuff??/

I am now eye balling this board as the 01V96 replacement. I am looking for a small compact board for the bar/budget gigs where I need less than 16 mic inputs, this board fits my requirements.

Its look simple and easy to use, almost like they took a page from the Yamaha book (layer 1 is Ins, layer 2 is Outs). If you need more than 16 inputs, this is the wrong tool for the job.

I like the fact it works with the big brother GLD80 if you need more than 16 inputs.

We'll see what changes and how many will occur before this desk is even available in the USA. Any statements made at this time regarding this'n'that are likely rendered moot within one season with software updates, etc.

Pigeon-holing it now is probably futile, given the capability of digital consoles to be upgraded.

Re: A&H QU info leaked a day early

No MIDI input or MIDI control :(

Still, it does look like a very nice product.

The X32 Performer will still have more features, but this mixer has a label that says "Allen & Heath" .... and those folks have earned some respect with me. My venerable MixWiz is over 10 years old..... never a hiccup! Neither of these mixers are released for sale yet, so it is premature to make any final decisions at this time.

It also has a much more intuitive interface than the X32 (more like the Expression Si and/or SL 16.4.2), and faders for all 16 mic inputs at once.

Decisions, decisions ;)
