So first I was pissed off that someone was trying to use my name in China, now I am pissed off because I feel that
I am getting worked by "Terry" to waste money registering my name just so someone else won't register it.
Below are the three emails I received.

Regards, Jack

We are a Network Service Company which is the domain name registration center in Shanghai, China. On March 18, 2013, we received an application from Hongsheng company requested "assistanceaudio" as their internet keyword and China (CN)/.asia domain names. But after checking it, we find this name conflict with your company name or trademark. In order to deal with this matter better, it's necessary to send email to you and confirm whether this company is your distributor or business partner in China?

Kind regards
Terry Zhang

Dear Sirs,
We are Hongsheng company based in China. We will register the "assistanceaudio" as internet keyword and China/.Asia domain names .cn, .cn.com, .com.cn, .net.cn, .org.cn, .asia. We have submitted our application and are waiting for Mr. Terry Zhang's approval. We think this name is important for our business in Chinese market. Even though Mr. Terry Zhang advises us to change another name, we will persist in this name.
Best regards

Dear Jack ,
Based on your company having no relationship with them, we have suggested they should choose another name to avoid this conflict but they insist on this name as China/.asia domain names (.cn/.cn.com/.com.cn/.net.cn/.org.cn/.asia) and internet keyword. In our opinion, maybe they do the similar business as your company and register it to promote his company.
According to the domain name registration principle: The domain name and internet keyword which applied based on the international principle are opened to companies as well as individuals. Any companies or individuals have rights to register any domain name and internet keyword which are unregistered. Since your company haven't registered this name as China/.asia domains and internet keyword on the internet, anyone can obtain them by registration. However, in order to avoid this conflict, the trademark or original name owner has priority in making this registration in our audit period.
If your company is the original owner of this name and want to register these China/.asia domain names (.cn/.cn.com/.com.cn/.net.cn/.org.cn/.asia) and internet keyword to prevent anybody from using them, please inform us. We can send you an application form with price list and help your company register them.

Kind regards
Terry Zhang

Re: assistanceaudio.cn, which side is working me harder?

These are common scams - my company has gotten them too. There is likely no party on the other end trying to get the Chinese version of your domain, and even so, who cares? It's not likely that your US-based business would be confused with a hypothetical Chinese one. I'd pass.

Re: assistanceaudio.cn, which side is working me harder?

Stick it to them.

Tell them that you would be happy to license your name to them for some really absurd amount of money.

If there really is someone there who wants to use it that bad, they will pay... then who goes home laughing? You do.

Like TJ said, it isn't like your US customers are going to really care that much that there is some company in China using your name.

Tell them to go ahead and register those domain names for the other company and send you $100,000 for each one they register.

Who couldn't use an extra $600,000? I know I could. ;-)

Re: assistanceaudio.cn, which side is working me harder?

I'd be worried about .co, .net, and .org before I'd worry about .cn.

Plus, your name is a rather generic pairing of two common words. I'm surprised there aren't hearing aid companies and assisted-listening companies lined up for it.

Re: assistanceaudio.cn, which side is working me harder?

There are lot of companies who just buy domain names with the intention of selling them for a profit. One of them is called New Ventures LLC. They buy up essentially every domain just after it expires. If an original owner wants to renew it after that period, they'll sell it back at an enourmous rate (high hundreds to thousands).

Right now there are a few domains I'm personally interested in, but companies are holding them for sale. The top asking price for a domain name I want is $4700! Not worth it at all.

Right now, assistanceaudio.cn is being held by them in 'bad faith'. ICANN regulates domain names; I'm not sure on this, but I think you can file a complaint with them. In reality if you wanted that domain it would probably end up costing you thousands in legal fees, and you may have a hard time if you don't actually own a trademark for 'Assistance Audio.'

Re: assistanceaudio.cn, which side is working me harder?

Hi guys, thanks for the replies.

I have no product, so no real reason to have an issue with branding.
I do know that BMS had a problem with a Korean company using their name, manufacturing speaker components also, and there was nothing that BMS could do about it.
The Korean company went out of business and solved the problem.

At first I was upset that someone would just use the name, not being creative enough to come up with something better or more original. Please?
Then upset when I realized that the two were in cahoots, not having my best interest as expressed. Ha.

And no, I have no interest in registering other domains, or trying to stop them, or accommodate them.

I do know that one can no longer register names such as, peytonmanning.com, and try and sell it to Peyton.
But am amazed at what people have registered, and what they want for such domains.

And also am amazed at the lengths parties, such as political ones, will go to register demeaning names, so they cannot be used, only to have their detractors find something more abusive to name their web sites.

I think assistanceaudiosucks.com and .net are still available.

Regards, Jack
