Radial PRO DI - passive

Re: Radial PRO DI - passive

I just finished another festival sat, where I put 4 , pro di's across the front.... Anything with a pre-amp in front, it was fine (fishman, other). Also some acoustics handled it as well. But I had acoustic that sounded like an over driven preamp, crunchy and very weak, couldn't bring it out of the mix at all no matter how much trim I applied. Oversaturated would be a good word. the guitar seemed decent enough and had a built in volume control etc... Next act - used the same di - no issues, so it wasn't my gear... thoughts ? Again I just feel these di's need alot more push that other passives I've owned. I'll probably switch to the radial active pro48.

Bad battery in the guitar's on-board preamp?

Bingo!! First thing I check when I run into that nasty sounding acoustic guitar.

Probably was, but I'm done playing nurse maid to fricken musos.... There was an "on mic" call out to the audience for a 9 volt battery for something else...

Change your batteries, or bring your own
Change your strings, and bring some spares
Carry your own F@#$ing tape for set lists, guitar strap repairs and other misc BS.
Bring a working patch cable ( I supply them now, just so I know they will work - they are lime green so they don't "get legs")
I now bring guitar stands cause they are too stupid or lazy to bring their own.

Pretty soon I might as well get on stage and play it for them...

Sorry gents - I'm having flash backs of sat....

Electronic drum kit shows up.... patch it in, drop a/c for the brain.......

me - "ugh dude, where is your a/c adapter"....
Drummer to me - "you wouldn't have one would ya"....
me - ugh, no... So slapping the stage it is for you....

(also said drummer left his kick pad beside my truck, so I'm waiting for that phone call).
*sigh*

All of this reminds me to make a backstage sign for this weekend...

Remember, no matter whose fault it is, if it happens during the show it's the fault of the person at the opposite end of the room running sound.

(Yes, I've run the length of an arena to throw a mic up on the suddenly-dead acoustic guitar being played by a well-known blues/folk artist 30 minutes into her show. Guess whose fault an arena full of people thinks that was.)

At every gig I set up a good mic on a long cord it is on a table stand sitting on the floor out of the way but all the talent is told it is there in case something quits. If your wireless goes dead, don't ask, don't comment, just grab that mic and keep going.

I make and sell DIs so of corse I never have trouble with them (grin)
