Soundcraft Ui12 - Is it rack mountable?

Just mounted another one this way. Took some photos for you. They stupidly did not make holes through the rubber cover on the rack ear / handle, but the holes are through the metal inside the rubber just like the Ui16. Very easy to drill through the rubber. The 3-1/2” screws are...

Soundcraft Ui12 - Is it rack mountable?

The SoundCraft Ui design (actually SM Audio from Australia) is by far one of the very best mixers for schools and churches. Easy to understand and cost effective. However ….. it has a major design flaw. They should have made a model for installs with all the jaks on the back, but still have...

Help me understand the concept of speaker “throw” please.

Throw Yes, I know that I’m late to the party, so no comments about that ….. But for anyone stumbling onto this discussion, I want to clear up a couple of things. First - the "throw" does indeed describe the distance sound will project. A narrower pattern will inherently project farther...

    Column speakers systems

You are correct, column speakers have been around a long time, and have sounded bad all of that time. The new generation is only a little better.

    Column speakers systems

Directivity of high frequencies, the only thing that matters in speech intelligibility, is determined by the horn or tweeter. The IG4 that you like is 100° x 90°. Which is pretty wide, not very directional. Q (directivity) by distribution pattern (coverage angles) Q. Distribution Pattern...

    Column speakers systems

The JBL CBT 70J is especially bad, I have seen (and heard) them in three places. Very, nay, extremely beamy on the highs. Straight out, on axis, like a laser. Move to the side a couple of degrees and the highs are gone. They ended up putting up more speakers on the sides to cover the back...

    Column speakers systems

I probably should have specified that I’m talking about installed systems in church sanctuaries, school auditoriums, gymnasiums, and stadiums, where we have been getting a rush of calls from unsatisfied customers who are not getting the performance they were promised. I'm not talking about...

    Column speakers systems

If you specifically do NOT want the sound to travel more than fifteen feet, then these are for you. Yes, I’m being facetious, but the stupid little stick looking things are the worst idea in audio I’ve ever seen. A fad, like hula hoops, and Furby dolls. A normal 12” or 15” 2-way will easily...

Decision time: Digital or Analog (Behringer X32 + S16 vs analog snake and analog mixer + more questions

Behringer service is nearly non-existent. And the MACKIE interface is more user friendly.

Decision time: Digital or Analog (Behringer X32 + S16 vs analog snake and analog mixer + more questions

MACKIE DL series, without a doubt. Snakes, knobs, outboard processors - ALL OBSOLETE ! Yes, it takes a little change in thinking, (about a minute) but the sheer convenience is W E L L worth it. The DL series blows away the competition. Features. Functions. Memory. Price. All others fall...

Is it possible to combine multiple amplifiers to get higher power?

NO. NO. Absolutely never connect the output terminals of one amp to the output terminals of another ! Unless you like Blown Amplifiers ! To say that a speaker "requires" a certain power is like saying that you are "required" to drive the speed limit. The power rating is the maximum it can...

    Replacement speakers

Without a doubt, Eminence SIGMA. Will probably sound better than the originals. Best cost to performance ratio and with sensitivity of 99dB, they kill the competition. I would not even consider anything else.

    New Peavey Aureus digital mixer

If it says PEAVEY on the front, it is probably junk. Get a MACKIE DL16S and have something worth carrying home. The console mixer is passé. Why be stuck at a table when you can run it from anywhere in the room, right in your hands.

    Compression Driver wattage.??

Simple answer: About 10 : 1. So with a 300 watt woofer, a 30 watt hf driver (tweeter) Without a doubt the best value, and certainly one of the best drivers anywhere is PRV D280Ti PRV from Brazil grew out of Selenium after it was bought by JBL in ’06, and some there did not like being owned by...

Help me understand the concept of speaker “throw” please.

A topic overflowing with misconceptions. . . . . . Simply: Long throw means a narrow dispersion pattern, which assumes the target coverage area will be far away. Short throw means a wide coverage pattern for a target coverage area which is close. • You may have heard that sound dissipates at...
