Problems with the pins in Shure mics. Is it just us? What to do?

We're constantly having problems with the pins in Shure mics intermittently disconnecting during performances causing drop outs or pops in the case of condensers. It happens with old mics and new mics. With 58's, beta 58's, beta 91a's, and beta 87's especially are the worst offenders. Being a...

Sign of the times. I just bought this for $1,300.

A PM4000c 48 in like new condition with dual psu's, lights, case, cover. Big analog is nearly dead! Don't worry it's in my club where nobody will ever have to move it! It sounds great and I honestly don't know why it catches so much hell other then the EQ being a bit crunchy when your...

    Help with EAW SM122's.

Re: Help with EAW SM122's. Here's another screen cap at 1/24th smoothing. Next time I take them apart and can get to the Xovers I'll see if I can take pics and get schemo's. I don't have that info on hand at the moment. All but one of the HF drivers have been replaced with new drivers...

Do you interpret "required SPL" on riders as A or C weighting?

Most of the tech riders I see come through here have "PA must be able to maintain 115db undistorted at mix position" and some have been absurdly high like 130db. Rarely if ever is there a weighting specified which is silly to me. What's the deal? A or C?

    Help with EAW SM122's.

So we bought some EAW SM122's last year. And they weren't in the best shape. I've been into all of them cleaning out some very dirty HF coil slots, replacing a diaphram or two and one HF magnet assembly as the phase plug had the center portion missing. Still after all the work and fresh parts...

Help a club pick a console to replace an aging Crest VX.

I fixed up an old crest VX a few years ago and put it at FOH and while the VX is a nice console and has made a world of difference from the venues previous A&H GL2800 (now a monitor desk) its getting long in the tooth and I'm getting tired of replacing switches and cleaning it constantly and...

How to handle monitors combing when in pairs.

A lot of wedges I come across comb pretty bad when used in pairs on a single mix yet everybody still wants a pairs of wedges for their muso's on one mix. What's the story with wedges and combing? Any tricks? I'm currently using EAW SM159's. 15" with horizontally oriented horn above the woofer...

Hey club guys, lets see your offices (FOH)!

Re: Hey club guys, lets see your offices (FOH)! I'm pretty sure I was at one of these gigs last year while on vacation with my lady. It was interesting. Well done. My temp office for a fest B Stage this weekend. Kinda thrown together. Not the best time I've ever had. But I got it done...

Hey club guys, lets see your offices (FOH)!

Us club guys live in dark dank beer soaked caves inhabited by wooh girls and needy fragile and clueless musicians who will do whatever it takes to make things not run smooth. It's the battlefield of audio engineering. Combat audio. As hard as it gets. Where there's as much politics and...

Would you rather have graphs for mixing wedges or PEQ's on a large screen like this?

So I'm building a monitor world in my medium sized venue using an analogue desk. We never get bands bringing monitor engy's. It's gonna really be all us. So I'm thinking about so many people flying digital desks having completely abandon outboard graphics entirely in favor of PEQ's they control...

Problem connecting to BSS 9088ii's. Can you help?

I scored a couple of the older green BSS Soundwebs and am trying to program them but the Sound Designer software keeps saying "preparing to go online" and then "Soundweb could not find a device on the network" Here's what I've tried so far... Two different RS232/RS485 adapters. Two...

Old XTS vs old BSS Soundweb for system DSP?

*XTA sorry Was looking for one of the old green BSS Soundweb 9088ii's to use for monitor processing for the venue I'm PM for and wound up scoring two. So I'm considering using the second to replace our two older XTA DP200's that are on rig processing duty. It's a Bi-amp + mono subs setup. Would...

    Audio Technica AE5400 vs. AT5400?

I see the AT5400 showing up on a lot of tours lately and hear people saying a lot of good things about them but the old version is no more, replaced by the newer AE version. Is there any real difference between them?

Multiple console's outputs into a single power amp input?

Outputs from two desks and graphs "Y'ed" into a single power amp. What could possibly go wrong? I know some amps have switches that will allow summing both inputs right on the back for bridged or dual mono use but I need to use both channels for two different wedges mixes.

Need help expanding venue's ETA power disto. Please advise.
