12 inch subs

Re: 12 inch subs

At 83 lbs, while not featherweight, a QSC KW181 would be a good contender. I'd go to a Banjo Barn and ask if you can pick one up.

My Home Depot convertible dolly works great for carrying multiple speakers and amps, but can also be turned into a hand truck for tighter spaces. Not sure which dolly you have, but this works really well.

It's next on my list to add; I've been happy with the Alto SXM112A monitors, so may be considering their Black Series Sub (they have an ex JBL guy there now)...

Re: 12 inch subs

Even though I have K&M crank stands capable of handling the load, I am hesitant of hoisting my SRX835's up on a stand. Maybe I am being over cautious but 85 pounds over peoples' heads on a tripod scares me!

Re: 12 inch subs

It depends on the stands and where you actually put the tripods. Back in the day, I'd regularly hoist 75lb Peavey cabinets on their heavy as hell steel stands. It would take quite a bit to knock them off of that, and at that point, any speaker on a stand would be an issue. Now, I've seen people try and do that with el-cheapo stands, and that scares the crap out of me. Look at those wrong, and they can collapse like nothing.

If your stand is heavy duty enough, and you can position the stand in a safe spot, ie, not over anyone's head, then you should be just fine. Of course, a ground stack may look better than a giant speaker on a stand.

Re: 12 inch subs

I just purchased a pair of the PRX715xlf's used and I am surprisingly impressed. I own SRX828 and PRX718xlf cabs but these came my way for cheap so I grabbed them. I will be using them for the band in smaller venues - probably coupled just to make sure. I can pick them up and carry them myself and I am not very big. I can't do the same with the PRX718xlf's which we have on wheels.
I did a comparison in my rehearsal room between the 15's and the 18's and I could hardly tell the difference. I am sure the 18's will go louder and lower so the 15's might not suit DJs but for live band work in small bars- they are the perfect fit.
