18rbx100 review

Re: 18rbx100 review

i got one more question - i was reading this other thread and that confused me (on that thread they were discussing a rectangular port).

the suggested box volume of 140 L, is this excluding the driver volume and port volume?

Re: 18rbx100 review

Thanks David and Art. Sorry for the delay in responding, i got busy over the weekend.

sorry about that question about the vent size, was just trying to make sure that i understand it correctly and i think i have :D

ok, moving to other questions -
which one is more closer to real performance for simulating a bass reflex in WinISD or BassBox?
the reason i ask this is because there is a slight difference (approximately 1db) between the fq. plot on WinISD and BassBox which i think is fine but the difference in cone excursion is almost 2mm. On winISD at 58.27hz it's 9.23mm and on BassBox at 59.76hz its 7.83mm.
Neil,

Doubling excursion is a (simulated) increase of 6 dB. 9.23-7.83 =1.4mm (almost 1 dB...) 1.4/9.23mm is a 15% difference. 15% of 6 dB is (approximately) one dB.

I don't use either WinISD or BassBox (Hornresp is my sim of choice), but the difference may be due to different impedance calculations, which would result in different power for a given voltage. At any rate, both produce smooth lines in charts, while real speaker's measurements wiggle around with (a lot) more than 1 dB variations, don't worry about small differences.

Yup, the box volume in models or suggested designs is always the empty space after accounting for ports, drivers, bracing, handles etc.

Re: 18rbx100 review

Thank you Art, David and all that have helped with their valuable inputs.

I have everything almost ready and should start my build soon, just waiting for the drivers to arrive.
