Acceptability of new Wireless

Re: Acceptability of new Wireless

I asked around for quotes and got prices around 500-550 /channel for a 4 channel handset system (on sale - prices going up soon......)
Reviews are better than I expected for what that's worth.
Still an unknown to me at the moment.
Wish I could rent one for a couple shows and see what I thought

Re: Acceptability of new Wireless

The Line6 are impressing me based on their feature claims and price point. There was a set going around as a road test on PSW; I would love to get my hands on a set to really run them through their paces and compare the sound, RF strength, and durability. 12 simultaneous, built in antenna distro. And for me, the real selling point, interchangeable capsules with Shure and Heil.

Anyone using them out in the wild?

Re: Acceptability of new Wireless

Was just checking out the Line 6 XD-V70. The capability to accept Shure capsules makes me interested.
It doesn't seem to have the flexibility of the MiPro as far as number of channels available.
That could be an issue for a number of folks.

Found a basic "open the box and look at it" review on Harmony Central that may or may not be of interest:

That was me with the road test.

You can find my write up, over on the road test forum:

As you will see in the review, I am not a varsity provider... and I am not meeting riders. But my overall opinion of these systems is quite high. If you have any specific questions, feel free to ask me.

Re: Acceptability of new Wireless

I've been very pleased with the MiPro ACT 707 units.
I use 8 channels at a local theater, 8 channels at my church, and we have 8 channels planned for our new worship space. (AV contractor wanted a name brand like Shure or Seinhauser, but I was happy with MiPro, we were already invested in MiPro, and cost is ~2/3)

At one time, I combined them for a 16 ch. show. Absolutely no problems.

We use the ACT707F with ACT707MC for 4 receivers in 1U.
And we use the higher end metal handhelds & body packs (they have cheaper plastic body versions too).
GBF is very good.
Handling noise is AWESOME (pretty much non-existent).
Sound quality has been great, but I think they are a little more pop sensitive than others.

I see MiPro has also released a new ACT 7-Series UHF Wideband System that offers a bigger 72 MHz wide band (ACT 707 series is 24 MHz wide).
That looks interesting, but I know nothing more.

MiPro has also had a digital system for a while, but again, I know nothing about them.

Re: Acceptability of new Wireless

+1 on the Mipro ACT 707 Handheld's GBF with the MU78 or 79 condenser capsule. They actually sound better than a wired SM58 on most vocals. More clear and natural. Absolutely no dropouts of any kind and I have had them over 200 feet from the receiver in multiples. Noticeably better starts at over $1000 per channel. I like the middle and top of the line transmitters for singers. The on/off switch on the handle of the bottom line HE (E must stand for economy) is a little scarey. It does make a cool wireless talkback mic for FOH since I had one laying around. As for the bodypacks don't go for the plastic ones if you plan on having them dropped and stepped on EVER. I now have a parts one. Metal seems to take a little more abuse. I believe the ACT 707 series IS the Beyerdynamic Opus without the rider friendly badge. In other news: Got the Vocopro 4 channel unit in with some used gear. All 4 channels worked just fine. Cool for what it is. Sounded like a wireless SM58 only harsh and nasty. Donated them to a church. Fine for speaking or karaoke vocals loaded up with some effects but a little too much bite for me for most singing applications. Absolutely not rider friendly. I did use them once in a pinch for 4 wireless vocals in a 11 piece show band. Got me through. Don't tell anyone.
