Allen and Heath DLive Series

Re: Allen and Heath DLive Series

Looks like Allen and Heath released an updated version of the iLive series stuff.

Yes they have. Its more than an up date - 96KHz, 128 in, 64 out, GEQ on all outputs, 16 effects/busses, dual 12 inch screens, FPGA based ... and, and ... in terms of power I think its comparable to an XL8, SD10 etc. This is a very serious Pro desk from the Allen & Heath at a respectable price.

Prices range from $22,500 for a small dLive venue solution to approximately $35,000 for a large touring system.

Not a Lounge type console.

I think you are correct - FWIW here is a copy of what I posted on Prosoundweb

Just to give you an idea of how powerful the d-Live is I have done a quick comparison. It’s a bit tricky to find the information and difficult to do a really good comparison because of the different way things are specified, so I have taken my best guess … please excuse any mistakes

The latency is very appealing to me. Seems perfect for monitor world.

Re: Allen and Heath DLive Series

The literature seems to indicate dLive has 128 input processing channels in the traditional sense, the last 32 of 160 being dedicated FX returns. Also, the 64 busses includes matrices of their function style, where the Digico is more of a traditional XbyX matrix. I think this desk looks excellent. I've really been opened up to Allen Heath as a brand since my GLD purchase.

The 96kHz sample rate does help it seems...
Curious if the other figures are worst case or at whatever sample rate?

Maybe the specs of midas having higher latency, because of delay added to compensate for effects processors etc. (who add latency) to avoid timing problems resulting in phasing?
But off course especial for monitor duty less latency is more important.

Is this a allen & heath, digico or calrec design? Or some in between?
Curious if they will produce / market a sort of the same console, but with the digico branding... (Similar to midas M32 behringer X32)

Even with no latency compensation the Midas Pro doesn't get anywhere near that 0.6ms. So that's pretty good.

Re: Allen and Heath DLive Series

If latency is halved at 96khz compared to 48khz In wonder what the X/M32 could do latency wise at 96khz or what midas/Behringer could come up with. They have already got sub 1ms @ 48khz so I reckon at 96khz they should easily be able to create a mixer that matches/exceeds the latency of the dlive.

If they have enough power under the hood, they could indeed almost halve the latency. Which I doubt, else they would have added that feature to the M32 at least.
