I've got loads of mics too, not nearly as many as you it sounds, but certainly a good cross section of what gets asked for most often. My original quip about the drum mic threads was intended to be a joke, but I guess that didn't translate.
For me, buying industry standard mics make meeting client requests much easier. Do I favor my AE6100 vocal mics? Sure, but the sm58 collection still sees more use. Shit, I've had guys turn down an RE-20 or AKG-414 on a tenor sax, in favor of a 57 or 58.
So sure, buy whatever mics make you happy, not going to bother me any. Call me closed minded and unable to think on my own, if it helps you get your point across, that's cool too.
