Baby Presonus

Re: Baby Presonus

I can't tell you how much I want this console to be under the $3,000 price point. It's wishful think I know, but I one of these days, one of these companies is going to hit the price/feature ratio and finally replace the 01V96.
+1 - it's been 8 years since the 01v96 hit and there isn't anything that does what it does for the money. With the Presonus offerings, you pay less and you get less, or with the LS9-16 you pay more but get different - only one IO slot is really the killer on that board.

I'm still holding out for an LS9-32 like board with a digital snake for $5000. I'm convinced we'll get there.

Re: Baby Presonus

This console doesn't do enough to be worth more than $1500. It essentially only allows for 11 inputs when you consider that you need one of the stereo inputs for some sort of playback and then it only allows for four mixes. However, the day that I become lucky enough to be the FOH engineer for a comedian this would be great. Actually this would be a decent console for a small theater group that needs RF reinforcement and playback, but no foldback. The limited number of outs would be good for backstage, sound fx, lobby and mono fills.

Use for the touring professional- not likely to happen unless you need something for editing sound effects.

Re: Baby Presonus

I think it is time to face the music, digital doesn't mean cutting edge.

Hell, my toaster has more memory than some of the first computers I used, and I really don't know who decided how many presets I need for different types of toast.

The fact that a board is digital is no longer a meaningful selling point. For any board, analog or digital, the question comes down to feature set vs. price.

In addition to this - once the digital R&D is paid for, digital boards become cheaper and cheaper to produce - it's likely we'll see a point where all low-end boards will be digital, and analog will come at a price premium.

I would sure hope so since $3,000 is $300 more than I paid for my StudioLive 24.4.2 New just 2 months ago!

You just might be on to something! Just like we "advanced" to solid state technology and made the vacuum tube obsolete, but now people pay a premium for audio devices with tubes in them!

Re: Baby Presonus

Where small format digital desks that are relatively cheap absolutely shine is corporate work. Not main floors of a convention, but political speeches, breakout rooms, smaller stuff like that. I have a few original 01V's that have more than paid for themselves doing this kinda work.

Re: Baby Presonus

From what I can tell: It's not 19" wide, and the brochure states that it is not rack mountable. I looked up the specs the other day. It is about 16" wide and 15.5" deep (IIRC). The volume is half that of a Studiolive 16.4.2, but it is only 3 lbs lighter (20 vs. 23).

I was a bit interested at first, but 20lbs is a bit more than I expected.

MAP is indeed $1299 on the board. Not a bad price point for a compact board. Think places that are running little Mackie boards right now as the target for this device. For small bands that run their own sound, this is a perfect little mixer and the price is right.
