The Mackie also charges the IPad, and in install operations, the IPad can be "locked" in place on the dock. Although the continually changing dimensions of the IPad models makes difficulties for docking dimensions, Mackie has come up with reasonable solutions. It would be much easier to create a non-docking platform - which gives up charging and direct, non-WiFi connection to the base.Can't speak for the others...
