Hi guys,

I am in no way anything close to being a sound expert, i stumbled on this forum after searching high and low for help in google. It has always been a dream of mine to own a 5.1 setup and I realized for a long time I had one that was only being used at the front beside the TV. So an idea hit me: Why dont I use it to connect to my own pc setup to output true 5.1 surround and change the speaker placements.

My current situation:
- An old samsung 5.1 home theater system that does not even have an hdmi output
- all 5.1 speakers use old speaker terminals as an input
- Bought an 3.5mm jack to RCA splitter to AUX out from my pc
- Outputting sounds works only on the Main right/left + .1 woofer
- PC does not have a dedicated sound card
- No 5 channel output
- all speakers and cables are working fine when i switched the ports out

Reasons I am suspecting the system does not work:
- 3.5mm jack does not output 5 channel output
- Possibly wanting to buy an external sound card that supports 5.1
- Using an hdmi adapter to output sound

I may even be completely wrong in all the reasons i've stated out. I'm on the verge of purchasing a external sound card but would like some advice from some experts in the room before I send any money into this to know i've done it all wrong.
