I need some "new" power amps for our band and came across some Crown CL4's for about $435 shipped ea. (we're on a very tight budget right now)

IIRC, they are install versions of the CE4000.

My question is since the input gains are on the back of the amp, would it cause any problems leaving them turned up while powering them up & down?

As long as you turn off the amps first (before other pieces of gear) there should be no problem.

Well, I went another direction and found a killer deal on a pair of QSC DCA 3022's. Bob Lee said they're very similar to a PL230 and they have over 2 1/2 years warranty left. When I get another amp for mids, they will be bridged mono (4 ohm load) on two 218 (2000w RMS) subs.
