Is this thing just wired each pins 2 and 3 to a single pair in the Cat5e? Or is there some kind witchery involved?

Tim, I don't ask how or why it works, but I use the CBI version..... LOVE IT...
I'm going to mod mine to have two 5 pin and two 3 pin, just in case.

The pinout is on the PDF datasheet, and yes, it's just one data pair per universe, in some cases without a ground connection.
