Dodgy Rigging Alert

Re: Dodgy Rigging Alert

Just a question that I've been thinking about for a few weeks - shouldn't you always load the truss in compression? In other words, around the whole truss, not just the a single or two pipes?

Either way nothing good can come of that rigging.

Re: Dodgy Rigging Alert

It's a..."shame?" because it looks like he went to some effort to get some decent looking rigging on the actual boxes, but then half assed everything else. The devil is in the details.
I would argue that it "appears" as if the actual box rigging is poor.

I don't see anything that attaches the top points to the sides of the cabinets.

This would mean that the whole cabinet is supported buy the top piece and whatever is attached (glued/stapled etc) to it.

If there were some angle brackets going to the sides (and FIRMLY attached by through hardware, then I would say the rigging was better.

But a point on the top of the cabinet alone (with all the weigh hanging below it) is NOT safe-no matter how good the hardware is.

Speaking of dodgy...

check this one out.... fly points already on the box.... naaaa don't need those, guy decided to just make his own fly points .... bolt and washer on either side, that was it. Yorkville U15p powered cabs....

I walked in and started to chuckle...

Yeah, but the fly point is probably a metric thread or something. Those are SO hard to find bolts for.....

Ah, Ivan I think we are talking about 2 different pictures. On the ebay auction the bill fitz "line array" has some custom machined and powder coated box rigging that looks pretty decent, but then attaches to an Unpainted chunk of standard steel and some hardware store chain.

Agree on the other picture though, where the clamps attach right to the top of the box. Even on the cheapest JBL JRX boxes there are usually steel L brackets that reinforce the rigging points to the side box panels.

I was referring to the photo on the left. I don't see any L brackets and it "appears to me" as if the bolt is just going through the cabinet. It is a long way from the side (much further than any rigging hardware I have seen)

I zoomed in and didn't see anything that looked like flyware on the inside of the cabinet-but maybe I am looking at something wrong.

Yup I'm agreeing with you 100%. Just saying even the cheapest MI boxes have brackets in them, and these clearly do not.

Re: Dodgy Rigging Alert

It looks like a lag screw.

Even scarier is why all 4) speakers were in the shop for repair ....

remember they are powered boxes with built in amp modules , after trying to explain for 25 minutes to the customer that they no longer needed their rack of amps to power the speakers , they still did not understand. They proceeded to take the speaker output of their existing amps straight into the line level input of the powered boxes, with a couple custom adapters of course .....

kaboom!! :lol::lol:

It it gets even better, these same customers bought a passive pair of peavey pr12's a while back. After explaining for a while they would need an amp to power them I gave up.... So To make them powered they cut off the end off an iec cable and spliced in a 1/4 inch trs jack to Edison.... Kaboom again ! .... When I seen these guys I run!!!

Having to explain why things like that are not covered under warranty ito them is always fun, I use the analogy ...if you go and buy a brand new Toyota camry, drive it off the lot and proceed to drive it straight into a poll, is that covered under warranty.... Blank stare usually the response ....

Anyway sorry Forthe hijack

They wouldn't be the first to pull that stunt...

I know a guy who put a 1/4" plug on an extension cord and plugged it into the wall and his guitar.

It didn't work after that------------------I wonder why? After all-it was an "electric guitar" right????????????
