Easy Sound Program for PC

I'm trying to put together sound for a middle school production and need to run sound from a laptop PC. I have a bunch of sound effect files in both wave and mp3 format and need to edit and compile some of them into an smooth storm sound with lighting and wind that can be cued during the show off the actors. I'm looking to an inexpensive program that has a easy learning curve as I have today and tomorrow to get this done. Any suggestions?

This. I use to give about a 5 min lesson in how to use it when I worked at a school. VERY quick and easy to use. My guess is there are also some videos on line showing what I use to show.

For playback on windwos I like Foobar2000.

A big plus 1 on both Audacity and FooBar2000. Both are solid tools.
