Favorite LED Pars

Re: Favorite LED Pars

I have to chime in here. I own some of the colorstrips and have both played under and watched others under the multi-led lights. I hate the scattered shadows and the terrible color mix. The three, four or five leds under a lens and clustered in a par can look so much better, I can't understand the purpose of purchasing the older constructions any more. Is it just cost that you're still recommending them or an I missing something?

I think this depends on the quality of the lenses. I've played with this on my SlimPar Pro RGBAs, and the light field is integrated by about 3" from the fixture. There are no separate shadows, in fact the beam is WAY better than the Blizzard Q12A I compared it to. In the Blizzard, the slightly different angle that each color hits the shared lens was actually worse than the SlimPar where every LED has its own lens and therefore can be optimized more easily.

Re: Favorite LED Pars

If the light is pointing away from the audience, I don't care if it's a tri or quad. etc.

If the light points at the audience, I prefer a tri/quad etc because the light shows the color it is projecting rather than looking like a disco light.

The lights I recommended were lights for people on a budget that can't spend 2 to 400 on a single light but still want the band to not be in the dark.

Re: Favorite LED Pars

I find pictures speak volumes... it's hard to tell from the bad iphone pic but....

8 x mac 101s is doing the red colour - on truss, on an angle from the deck to an empty monitor case
6 x Blizzard PRO par 336 is doing the pink colour from the front veritcal truss.

the second pic, the 101's are doing a purple, and the propars are pink....

Be carful with this line of thinking. By nature camera's can "amplify" the light you see in the image. Therefor all of the pics of led pars you see on the web have to be taken with a grain of salt. I'm sure that that stage was plenty bright, but at the same time those colors are blowing out, so what did it really look like? Were there fingers of brite light and a bunch of shadows? Was it a nice even wash? We don't know and we can't tell because we are relying on a digital image that has been amplified to the point of clipping.

None of this is the fault of the picture taker. The camera does this all on it's own unless you are in full manual mode, and the iphone does not do full manual.

(Answering Phil)
Chauvet 4-Bar. Under 300 for a bar of 4 lights. You can run it on DMX or use the included footswitch.

They also have a new 4bar called the 4Bar Flex for $275
Chauvet 4Bar Flex
It has the same 4 lights as the normal 4Bar. The bar that the lights are mounted to, is better
(it has brackets for attaching more lights, brackets for floor use, and AC-out sockets)
The flex does not come with a tripod stand and thus sells for a little less than the regular 4 bar

If you want single lights, Guitar Center sells a cheap slim LED for $99
I think it's the same as the Chauvet Slimpar64
Venue Thinpar64 10mm LED Lightweight Par Light | GuitarCenter

They also sell the Chauvet slimpar64 for $129
Chauvet SLIM PAR 64 LED Par Can | GuitarCenter

Thank you Steve, the 4Bar Flex looks like it should be about perfect.

Phil
