Re: How to mic an Oboe and Clarinet We often use a DPA 4011 or DPA 4021. For flute, a boom arm over the stand, high enough to clear music and page turns. Point it at the player's chin. We're having great success right now with a DPA 4011 for an oboe/english horn chair. It's on a boom arm coming over the stand from the players left. Pointed about 4-6" below the reed. I usually clamp clarinet mics under the music stand and point them about 6" above the bell. As a side note, we just sat a 20 piece /50 input orchestra for a Broadway show and I think I used a total of 5 mic stands. Everything else is clamped or mounted on a flange fastened to the ceiling or walls.
