Re: How to mic an Oboe and Clarinet I guess I've arrived in some small way 'cause I've done several events with small orchestras. Typical event may have several rock type bands and a few odds and ends like large herds of similar shaped instruments. We had all the woodwind types set up on the ground in front of the stage because it was too small for the 50 something members to all fit. I used 3 Audix VX5's pointed at the different groupings of players like strings - flutes-n-clarenets - various saxes and I used the usual drum mics etc. My method is to never use monitors for that kind of thing. (I take that back - the bass fiddle was in the side fill a little) I always enjoy these things when they all hit together for the big parts :D~:-D~
