Microphone Suggestion Request

Re: Microphone Suggestion Request

Hi Art. I am aware of this, however I'm not all THAT concerned with the vocals since he's the fifth man down the line in terms of hitting harmony parts in our arrangements. It's just gravy really. Flute is the important part. Not sure why you are thinking they are rap style vocals. We do mostly 70s/80s funk and soul tunes.

He does beatbox. But he does it while he plays the flute, sort of like this.

Beatboxing flute inspector gadget remix - YouTube

Hence the pop filter requirement...

Confused you with Jay's post mentioning rap vocals with you mentioning beat box, brain fart from working with the Fat Boy rappers with the human beat box once in the 1980s.
The SM58 does have a lower frequency upper presence peak at around 6 kHz compared to around 8 kHz for the Beta 58, and a little bit wider pick up coverage, which can help even out the flute response, but both mics still need different EQ for flute than vocal, regardless of whether funk, soul, beatbox, rap or whatever. Whether it's worth an EQ for the fifth man is a different question ;^).
