Midas firmware 2.1.02 is now available!

Re: Midas firmware 2.1.02 is now available!

I just checked and 2.1 is still there. Upgraded 2 pro2's and a pro1 this afternoon and everything looks good. EQ controls actually display the correct value now! Any chance of some release notes from the guys at Midas?

Re: Midas firmware 2.1.02 is now available!

Can you provide a link to the editor and firmware ?
Yes.
http://mkt.ftpstream.com/
As of now, the 2.1.02 firmware is only available on the pro2 and pro1. (AFAIK)

What's new:

 • The shimmer compressor is now available on inputs.
 • Every compressor has a new "mor" (or "mdr"? (I can't recall)) button and I don't know what it does yet :-)
 • The previously unassigned "mode" button is now operable on the gate(s) as there are now 3 gate modes.
 • The first gate is the same as it was, the second is called "transient gate" so I would assume it is more transient-oriented in its signal analysis. And the third one is a ducker which is a pretty great addition!
 • Newcomer in the effects rack, a phase correction processor (4 stereo or 8 mono)
 • Newcomer in the effects rack, the "Sub Monster" effect. It sounds like a pitch shifter with a low-pass but it's way better and really great sounding!
 • Newcomer in the effects rack, the "Tape Saturation" effect. Pretty cool addition. No spoiler here but it looks pretty cool.
 • Newcomer in the effects rack, a DN60 emulation. It's an RTA with multiple inputs and signal comparison capabilities.
That's what I've found so far.

I'm still getting trapped in flip mode (am I the only one experiencing this issue?) I never notified Midas about this because I could not reproduce the bug at will. But damn is this a frustrating one (especially when training someone to use it). So if you're in flip mode and you do flip to an aux or a matrix, it is expected that when you re-select said aux or matrix that you would "flip back" to your standard non-flipped mode. But instead, the machine stays flipped and there is nothing to do about it except (what has sadly become a routine operation for me) deselect the flip button, select an input and re-select the flip button returning effectively to the expected flipping behavior. This issue was there before the update and is still an issue in 2.01.02 .

Also, I could not find what was stated here (Midas Press Release)
[...] plus new ground-breaking mixing concepts such as MIDAS' unique MCAs and "collapsed" fader flip. [...] [/QUOTE
Maybe I didn't look far enough :-)

Re: Midas firmware 2.1.02 is now available!

Have I got the wrong site or something ?

That's another issue, why is the current firmware of the console not announced or simply displayed on the Midas site?
(I'm not talking specifically about the 2.1.02 firmware update but in general)

When our pro2 was delivered (in october of 2012) it came from the US (I live in canada) and it came with an old firmware (two versions before 2.05.04) and I got some terrible issues. (Like a whole show coming down to a halt waiting for multiple reboots until the issue was gone, somehow...) Terrible +24dB WHACKwhickwhackwhrack in the P.A. (As loud as can be) because of another issue related to the pitch shifter. Until I, finally, made a video of the issue, send it to Midas, just to redirected to a website where I could get the newer firmware. I mean, the first thing you see on any page of any of Yamaha's digital desk is all the current firmwares and every info related to it.

I'm not saying bugs are a bad thing, they are part of development. But I have this feeling of being left-out of this process by not having any resources or "open and public" communication with Midas about, for one thing, firmwares.

What are your thought on the subject?

Re: Midas firmware 2.1.02 is now available!

I thought the MCA's and collapsed flip were already in place for 2.05R - accessed by enabling advanced navigation ?
MCA and collapsed flip are indeed accessible.

It's just that when they say:
[...] plus new ground-breaking mixing concepts such as [...]

I hear:
 • "plus" as an addition.
 • "new" as something new that was not there before.
 • "such as" as a comparison to something similar.

Re: Midas firmware 2.1.02 is now available!

You are correct, MCA's and Collapsed Flip were components of G2 which was released last year. The first half of the press release is referring to the software release of PL&S 2012.

"MIDAS Generation 2 software, unveiled at Prolight+Sound in 2012, added a host of new features and functionality to the entire range of MIDAS digital consoles including new FX and dynamics options, plus new ground-breaking mixing concepts such as MIDAS' unique MCAs and "collapsed" fader flip."

The rest of the press release continues with the new features in 2.1

If you ever have an issue with a Midas Pro series console, pick up the phone and call their tech support line. Somebody will always answer, and they will help get you through any issues right away. Their customer service is hands down the best.

I've had this occur too. The way to reproduce it is to select an output while in flip, then select one of the channel strip controls (either with the mouse or by pressing the little button adjacent to each set of controls). Presto, you are now stuck in flip mode.

To get out of it, you can either press the flip button, select an input, press flip again. Or you can just de-select the currently lit channel strip section by pressing the blue button, then everything functions normally.

I've had this happen as well, but it seems OK with 2.1.02 :)~:-)~

Re: Midas firmware 2.1.02 is now available!

So it is.. 30th September. And still no offline editor to match; and no release notes ?

What's different with the new version ?

Andrew
Technical Bulletin:

New Features:
 Support for DN9680 on Pro 1 and Pro 2 (N.B. DN9680 currently at restricted beta only)
 Alternative sync source – define secondary sync source for console
 Activate all six surface AES50 port on Pro 1
 Added preliminary support for DL15x (full support in future release)
 Full Gen II support for Pro B series
 Implementation of effects pack II for Pro 3, 6, 9 and XL8
 Implementation of extra dynamics features implemented for Pro 3, 6, 9 and XL8

Addressed Issues:

 Fixed Recall scope issue where Aux send 1, 2 & 3 contributions to matrices also affected
master channels
 Fixed occasional sluggish response of GUI fader display on side of Pro Series surface
relating to inactive MC
 Fixed issue where splash screen would display when under certain circumstances of hot
un-plugging a DL25x redundancy port and reconfiguring certain ports.
 Improvements to MIDI stability
 Improved animation for GUI representation of rotaries on simultaneous use of both
screen for Pro 369
 Mic gains recalled correctly after swapping between normal and tape return modes
 Broadened the scope of features in Paste To All Sections

Known Issues:

 Overview screen for output channels has superfluous tabs visible
 When Updating IO boxes programmed with PRO1 or PRO2 software via a Pro 369 or
XL8 the boxes must be updated by linking via the Ethernet control port.
 When Updating I/O boxes programmed with Pro 369 or XL8 software via a PRO1 or
PRO2 the boxes must be updated by linking via the Ethernet control port.
 If you connect a single wireless router, to use with an iPad, connected to two control
surfaces (set to different IP addresses) the consoles will crash
 Importing a show file into a PRO1/2 generated on a PRO3/6/9 leaves the MCA's and
VCA's of 9/10 set to their last levels in the original show file. This cannot be undone on
the PRO1/2 without loading the show into the PRO Series OLE and un-assigning those
channels from the VCA's.
 Empty GEQ slots will display partial labels/tabs
Update Procedure
This upgrade may be performed using the system updater as usual. The software may be
found in the following locations on the FTP server: http://mkt.ftpstream.com¨

Pro 1 software: /PRO-Series/PRO1
Pro 2 software: /PRO-Series/PRO2-PRO2C
Pro3, Pro6, Pro9: /PRO-Series/
Pro3B, Pro6B, Pro9B: /Pro B
XL8 software: /XL8

Re: Midas firmware 2.1.02 is now available!

Does anyone know what a 9680 ? An updated version of the 9650 or a new recorder ala blackbox style ?

"Next month, we will also be releasing an update to the KLARK TEKNIK DN9650 to operate with the X32 series. This will allow you to connect the X32 via AES50 to the DN9650 as a bridge to Madi, Dante, A-Net, CobraNet, Digigram Ethersound, and give the X32 external word clock sync. You can use any of these protocols via DN9650 expansion cards AND at the same time the X32's card slot for recording 32x32 to your DAW or as 32 inserts with Waves MultiRack or other low latency “Live Host” applications.

The X32 will also be compatible with the new flexible and affordable line of MIDAS stage boxes announced at WFX this week. They all feature MIDAS XL4 mic preamps and can be stacked in any configuration needed via AES50; all models are $1499 US MAP.
There will be four models, which are DL151 (24 in), DL152 (24 out), DL153 (16 in x 8 out), and DL154 (16 out x 8 in)"

Who knows ...
