Anyone have feedback on this yet? I've had a Pro 1 running succesfully for the past 5 days as a shop radio with the new software, but I'm still a little wary to send it out or upgrade the Pro2(we rolled it back to the first gen after getting bitten a few times).

No problems with it. I'm disappointed by the RTA. It looks like they made an exact replica of the existing KT hardware unit. Whilst it may be a faithful replication, I think a more modern RTA would have been better. I never expected it to replace Smaart but i'll stick with Smaart on solo bus for looking at spectral content.

I also think they should have updated the off line editor at the same time - it's still 2.05 so your files can't use the new settings until you get to the console.

That's a bummer about the offline editor, but so long as they're not locking up and making crazy clock noises anymore I'm a happy camper.

I bet one of the main reasons the RTA is simple is because of CPU resources.

Dear Andrew

The OLE takes a little longer than the console software to prepare as it has to be ported onto Mac's Unix OS, rather than on our Linux.
We didn't want our console owners to have to wait for the OLE before they could get to use all the new FX and dynamics.
The editor for 2.1 should be available mid-July.

With regards to the RTA, the new onboard virtual device has several improvements on the original. Dual channels, the ability to switch each channel between eight inputs, and a COMPARE function. While this was not originally intended as a replacement for your favourite laptop-based RTA, what else would you like us to add to it?

Re: Midas Gen II Update re: field reviews

The LED display is a little clunky for me. I think a graph as used in smaart and others would have looked a lot better even if it does show the same info. Better resolution would be nice - something a graph could probably do - allow it to put content in the space between the LED's - shouldn't be too much DSP for that ? Also the potential to make it single channel with double height would allow for some more resolution - I found it hard to get a setting where lows & highs were represented well.

I did note the 8 inputs and thought that was really good.

But I didn't buy the console for an RTA; I'm very happy with everything else.

But if you're reading, another suggestion ? When you press the VCA button the screen goes to the VCA/mute/pop group naming page. Press it again and there is no second function like the other buttons. How about second press brings you to the group members page - I forget what it's actually called but the screen under control groups which shows you the pop & vca goups at bottom, channels on left; members on right.

I would like to be able to press/select an aux send and have the GEQ flip to faders (as it does) and have the GEQ display on the screen as well as the RTA for that aux. (like it does for an EFX)

Regards
Peter

Can you clarify - your question reads that RTA can pop up when it's on the same send as an effects device ? Or did you just mean how the fx comes up in advanced navigation ?

I believe an earlier thread Richard said the graphic would come up in a future release to be consistent with how effects work.

Dear Andrew

The bar-graph display may look a bit "retro" but it's purpose is to permit easy "mental mapping" of the display onto a 1/3 octave GEQ for correction.
Of course, if you're using a PEQ instead, then a linear display would be better. I'll see what our designers can come up with.
That's also a great idea regarding the VCA shortcut second-press function.
Thanks for your feedback!

I really like the way the iLive does the RTA/Graphic in the latest update.

And that about concludes the things I like about iLive :)

Another that has bothered me a bit with the Pro 9, is that the "Patching/Metering" goes into patching first, then metering, because usually I'm going into the metering screen rather than the patch, once my patch is set up I rarely change it, but I jump back to the metering page often.

Maybe a small thing, but I'd like to get into the metering before the patching page.

Also looking forward for the copy, paste and link buttons on the keypad to work :)
